According to the Baugher site, it was converted to a PBJ-1J when it was received my the Navy.

She was pretty in silver, but I never cared for that ugle big beer mug nose art. She's going to be fantastic when she's back in her original WWII colors. Same with the Rose's sister ship (from the fire ant fighting days), Maid In The Shade. I wish we could find some photos of the Rose when she was in active service, but I don't think people would want to change her paint scheme. She's worn this one too long. At least we got the ego names off from her sides, and now I've got the yellow billboard off from the tail section.

It would be neat if we could locate relatives of the original 8U's crew and get them to come see the Rose. We have their names (the crew at the time 8U crashed due to the mid-air) painted at their stations.

Wow great pics...with the exception of maybe 2-3 airplanes you could say this is Harlingen 86 that I went to and I wouldn't know any better. I'm glad to have gotten to go at least once during that great era.
