This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

That T-6A would make a good addition to KAM, too bad it got shipped up to NMUSAF.

Chris, What are the plans for the B-23 and the C-39?

Is there a published list of priority (ever changing as it might be) of what aircraft get restored?

I have never seen a list. And if there was, man it would be always changing. Right now it is from main focus to least
Memphis Belle
Swoose
Helldiver
These 3 aircraft should be coming out of the shop around the same time, although the Belle will be first. THe B-23 is going to pre war aircraft as well as the C-39. Just waiting their turn in the shop.

I was just wondering when if ever they were going to get to converting and restoring the CASA. It has been in the depicted condition even back when I was a kid when you could see it poking out above a display partition.

I think that it is going to be in the next group after the B-17's.

What about the XC-99? I thought that was a high priority as of a year or so ago? Did it change?

Regarding the CASA, I know there was talk some time ago about replacing the Merlin engines to Jumo's and trying to make an "authentic fake He-111". Has that plan been scrubbed?

The XC-99 is sort of a beast of it's own nature. A seperate company is rebuilding the aircraft to have it placed on it's landing gear. THen the NMUSAF will take over from there.

I can see the restoration of the XC-99 lasting 15 years or more just because of its shear size.

I just interviewed one of the four Flight Engineers that were qualified to fly the XC-99 for a magazine article. He supplied many photos to the museum to help them and is on file for questions when they need him. Great guy. Told me he got out of the career when those new fangled turbo prop C-130's started to get into the inventory! He didn't trust a plane without pistons driving the prop.

My first crew chief at the airline told me the same thing. He was a flight engineer on DC-6/DC-7 but slid into a mechanic slot when they bought the Electras. He didn't like the idea of turboprops or pure jets, either.
