Maybe they just didn't have a pic as good as Jack's to work from! In a lot of pics, especially with ortho film that would darken the yellow, it could be very hard to tell that the numbers are there.

A nit picker would also note that the edge of the blue nose paint, where it turns downward from the anti-glare panel area to the side of the nose, turns a much sharper corner in the restoration than in the original. But overall I'd score it a well executed paint scheme, 95/100.

Beautiful profile! The "W" isn't quite right and I'm not sure the proportions of the serial number digits are the correct 8:4:1" (height/width/stroke), but you nailed most of it.

Bob was in contact with Alton and his family at several points during the restoration.
Unfortunately, Mr. Wallace he didn't make it to see the project to completion.

And I believe that before this D Model, Wallace flew both a P-47 and a razorback Mustang that were also called "Little Rebel."

You are right, the "W" was wrong. (NO THIS ISN'T A POLITICAL COMMENTARY, JUST DON'T GO THERE!!!) Rebuilt the W, and tweaked the serials, somehow they had gotten stretched a bit in editing and jpeging.

Inspiring and quite astounding. I've roughed up a piece (not quite done yet) and was looking to mail a couple copies up to them, a little memento of this cool event.
