Uh, what?

That's sort of like saying that driving to the grocery store to get bread and milk is just like driving in the Indy 500 (or, in your case JDK, the Australian Grand Prix).

Yeah, it's related in that the engine is providing thrust, the wings are providing lift, and the pilots are manipulating the controls to maneuver the aircraft...but outside of that, there's no relation IMHO.

For a fighter pilot, you're a bit slow, Randy. ;) I thought you'd hit some irony in your UK stint. Certainly the context - the fact that the FW is the same shape(ish) as a Fw and nothing else) was, I hoped, a clue.

The relation I chose was watching a racehorse walk-past in a paddock and estimating the race winner based on that... Exactly like your comparisons. Geddit? [ironyemoticon]

We can explain better at Osh, hopefully, with hand gestures. You still aiming to be there? :partyman:

Cheers,

PS - As to the whiney car race, I'd rather gnaw my own leg off than have anything to do with that futile exercise. :vom:

As usual, great shots Peter.

I'm assuming the entry step on the 190 retracts with the landing gear?

I wonder if it's like on the Sea Fury, where you have to manually retract it prior to getting in the cockpit? I noticed on someone's earlier photo of the dark blue Sea Fury, that you could just barely see that it's step was left down as well.

Here are a few I took on Thursday on the way to Lydd to grab a few photos with John Dibbs by these white cliffs that look like those at Dover. There was this neat lighthouse that added to the cool factor, especially when raging past it at 50'.

We were led to Lydd by our friend Peter in his Mk. IX. Can't trust the yanks to not overfly Stansted ....

Image

from above -- you can see my finger in the top left part of the frame. oops. Kinda puts color to all the WW2 shots we've seen:

Image

Here's Shipley in Rob Davies' BBD inland of the cliffs where John Dibbs was getting ready to shoot us. James Horner (Titanic, Bravehart, James Cameron's new movie Avatar, etc.) is in the back of BBD

Image

Here's one of the shots John got. It was pretty cool flying by these cliffs. Shipley also had a helicopter with a wierd gyron type camera filming us doing acro by the cliffs. Hopefully the footage will turn out okay:

and finally the most important guy -- Joe Kennedy is the best and, along with Alister Kay, were very kind to share their special Mustang with me. It was in impeccable shape and flew quite well. Thanks guys!

:D Let's just put it down to the inadequacy of internet communications.

More relevantly, thanks for the insights and pics, everyone. looks like TFC and Co did well in some adversity.

Was there much quaffing of ale in the Eagle?

The Dover shots are phenomenal. Many, many thanks for sharing them.

Jim, the Brits don't trust Yanks to fly "alone" past Dover after a number of occasions where US military folks have caused some significant, shall we say, "disruptions" to London area civil traffic because of where they've flown.

Of course, it wasn't my fault....can't prove anything.
