This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

I'll stand by you 100%

I really like having this place to come and discuss and research one of my favorite hobbies. Personally, I wouldn't like it much if Scott lock the place down and walked away from it all. I could understand it, but I wouldn't like it.
Shutting it down because a few people can't stop themselves from personally attacking people and not following the seemingly simple rules/guidlines would be a shame. There has to be another solution to this issue.

If Scott shut it down, some other place would pop up. Before WIX, there was a chat board or whatever they were called on AOL. I met up with Tim Savage there as well as VLADO (I'm sure I spelled that one wrong, sorry)......

Its like a free market, there is something that will come in to fill the void.

Mark, that's true. Unfortunately, it doesn't take very long for the incivilty to catch up again.

Also, and with all due respect, I think we owe Scott a bit more than to move out once we've killed this one.

I was on a firearms forum that got to be ego against ego and pretty much a private message board. You know, "Hey, xxxx, look what I got." "Yo, xxxx, are you gonna' do whatever this weekend?"
Enough people got fed up and started another firearms forum which was by invitation only. That soon deteriorated to the same as the previous forum.

I, for one, would hate to see Scott shut this place down BUT, keep in mind, there's a finite amount of crappola we MUST put up with in this life. If Scott "max's out" on his WIX crappola, he could very easily pull the plug. We could be nearing that "max".

Mudge the concerned

Very well put, Fotobass!

Only three sites matter to me in the morning:

WIX
The H.A.M.B.
Hobby Heaven

Don't mess with my coffee routine!

very eloquent statement!! thanks for taking the time to post so many valid points!! i can see how much you care!!

Excellent thread!

Other forums have dealt with these issues successfully.

I'm on Ferrarichat as well - the owner and mods are a bit more agressive in dealing with BS there. Also, they created a free vs. paid structure that works well. As I understand it, the owner of Ferrarichat has been able to switch from the site being a hobby to a full time job. If Scott does this here, it may be easier to deal with the BS.

If you visit, poke around the vintage section those guys aren't counting how many angels can dance on the head of a pin, they are debating what dance steps each of those angels took!

Great post to consider. I don't post much anymore mostly because I don't have a warbird question that needs an answer. I do a lot of reading and I guess "lurking" for the lack of a better description but this site needs to stay up and running. I don't venture far from this sight for warbird information. I started out over on AeroVintage years ago but I started asking questions about warbitds other than B-17's & 25's so Scott sent me over here. No problem, I still go over there for my B-17/25 fix. Love all guys, keep it going!!

Is it just me or are more people crying on this board now more then ever, then sharing and swapping information on Warbirds? ( and it seems more and more of those are coming from people with less and less posts. ) Hmmmm seems like a little trend here.

Every week, I see a post like this about crying about that or crying about this. I mean come on people, grow up, use the board for what it is intended for and that is sharing "INFORMATION"

Enough of these whining posts and lets talk airplanes.

Scott and the moderators do a great job and kick those out who start too much crap. If you cannot stand it here so much, then leave and go to another board.

If you like it here, then stay and post some info on airplanes.

Also, this is not indended for anyone individual, it is aimed at those trying to cause heartburn to the owner and the moderator. Just like any other club, if you don't follow the rules, you get booted, enough said.

*selfedit* I'm an idiot. I reread Paul's post, and he was very clear in what he's saying. I, on the other hand, am apparently short of caffeine.

I am simply saying that The axe needs to swing on those who need it.

I know it is a tough job monitoring it, but a few warnings and then you are gone should be implemented, if not already done so.

I just seem to notice more and more posts of people fighting more than sharing information.

I don't blame Scott for wanting to shut it down. But I would swing hard at people first before I would do that.

There should not be an open debate everytime someone is warned or shut out from the site. This is not a democracy, we are using a system that someone owns and updates and they have the ultimate say so and dictatorship over who can and cannot post on the board.

I personally say, if you don't like how things are run, go somewhere else.

I used to love posting on this site everyday, now I see nothing but cry-baby posts and less and less aircraft ones.

Fotobass, you've made some valid points that I do agree with....I usually tend not to get into politics on this forum, but I have seen the effects many times....Being a simpleton, I simplely have no time to get involved with a lot of the b.s., when it comes to evaluating somebody else's opinion or way of thinking....not my job....like most I've better things to persue....like airplanes..
To me...folks who like to stir up the spit bucket usually tend to be some pretty sad people that really should have had a hug a long time ago..My policy is to tune them out....bitter folks are boring....I like to have fun, laugh, and even to be laughed at...Lets talk warbirds!

Gary...... What you just said HEHE

Gary is right. The trouble on this entire board is solved by not reacting, and putting on a thick skin. People who cause the trouble thrive off of the angry reaction, or the driveby shooting type personal attack. This is amazingly comparible to the news media, and how they operate. You know, taking things out of context and then setting their victims up as the "straw man". It's really pretty sick.

Debate has it's place when discussing a factual matter, but defensive reacting is not debating. Recognize when to ignore and when to debate a subject. If it's negative and designed as a "drive by" attack, stay away from it. Or skillfully disarm it. There would probably be no need for moderators if everybody learned how to do this.

This board does and will have problems until everybody learns this. In my opinion, there are possibly 20 people who are trolling here actively and looking for somebody to destroy at any given time.

I don't know why other boards don't have this problem, but this board in particular really has it.
