This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

I don't think he'd mind my saying he has firsthand experience of what he's talking about
... I don't think he'd mind if I state what is stupid aviating and what is not either ... I've been a pilot for many years, my father always said, "you really don't need to be IFR unless you plan on flying in bad weather. I think I made it clear that flying on water is stupid .... and I know I know what I'm talking about ... for those pilots who think it's no big deal ... knock yourselves out, you probably will eventually ... just try to use an airplane that won't be missed

I'll tell you what I'm grateful for into my 40's ... as a pilot, age and altitude seem to increase ... as a still learning human being, age and hospital visits for foolishness seem to decrease .... hope I'm right!

risk assessment in aviation and the South African T6 water ski team has as much to do with each other as jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge .. One usually assures survival, the other most definately assures a meeting with Jesus ... But hey!! what do I know? I've only grown up around aviation and have only been a Licensed pilot for over 17 years ....

Hellcat,

I had an entire response typed out and ready to post regarding your last comments...then I realized something:

...arguing with you would be like wrestling with a pig in the mud...pretty soon you realize the pig enjoys it.

Or probably the pig wins because of logic ... you think about it ... but nice try though ... there's a very cool thing called a PM here .... maybe you should have saved it ... Other than that, maybe you should back up a fact that supports your argument for what you think. If not relax and try to learn something. I'm obviously not a fan of pilots who fly on water, but do I hate the guys?, not at all, I just don't want to read about any more deaths for foolishless. ... WHY????? because I care about ALL pilots who fly warbirds .... pretty simple, If I have to get hard*ss about it to make a point and piss some WIXers off in the process, You can count on it I will. I could care less who takes it the wrong way, I'm tired of hearing about another death in a warbird each year .... Sorry PMS kicking in tonight .. lol ... some of you guys think it's OK or cool to push the limits on warbirds, but I hate to tell you, it's not OK!!! people die and warbirds are lost ... both are NOT infinite!!! ... tough sh*t if it looks cool to see a T6 skim water ... not good enough, I don't care why you are and how great a pilot you think you are ... rant over ...

I want this year to be a very safe warbird year with NO LOSSES!!!!!

I do think about it...each time I DO it.

You keep on yammering about how you KNOW water-skiing an airplane is instant death...I'll go out and water-ski an airplane.

This is a case where something seems illogical to someone (you) who has neither an understanding of the underlying physics, or experience to draw upon. Hence the quick and complete condemnation of those who possess either one or the other, or both, of the above. With water-skiing a plane, it's simple physics. Ever worked out the hydroplane formula? Works on a lake/pond/river just as well as it does a wet runway.

Pssst...it's 9 times the square root of the tire pressure. But then again, you probably already knew that.

Again...and for the last time (at least by me): It is a calculated risk to water-ski an airplane. It should not be done by neophyte aviators in their rented 172's to show their girlfriend (or boyfriend, depending on which state you live in nowadays 8) ) just how cool they are. Done properly by a trained pilot in an appropriate type of aircraft it can be, and often is, a useful tool in an pilot's bag o' tricks.

OK tough guy!!! even though I probably know physics much better than you ... I get your point, I'm just a simple IFR jocky .... BTW! ... where would you like me to send your flowers? ...

Mod post: Please argue with evidence and don't attack the person.

Oh, and continually editing your posts is pretty annoying. If you can't stand by what you first say, please don't say it, thanks.

As you've said, please 'relax and try and learn something'.

Thank you.
