This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Yeah, all I get is the new information when I click on it, Zane. Interesting.

That's odd, it has the 2009 date and picture of the flyer, and info about "Ol' 927.

I take it then the Mustang will not be there?

I just tried to clear the old stuff out and it still comes up the same way....

I don't know...too new fangled for me too I guess.

Now I wonder what else...Am I seeing the real present or just a segment of the past. I may I need a flux capacitor...

I guess the website is not optimized for Firefox.

Firefox has the flight schedule, IE doesn't.

But the whole CFM site works better with IE.

Its a Microsoft conspiracy... ...but thats for a different forum...

So, no P-51?

Liberator Day at the Cavanaugh Flight Museum was a tremendous success. Had over twenty vets attend (I did not get the count, as I was busy with the airplane). The first flight we took had three vets on board. They all wanted to thank us, I at least was humbled to be in "their" airplane. I will try to get some pictures posted after the weekend is over.

Don't forget the Warbirds Over Addison at the Cavanaugh Flight Museum, Doug has several visitors due in.

Sounds like a successful day. Will be watching for pics!

Even if all you can get your hands on is an audio cassette recorder - you or other volunteers/staff should go around and get some of the veterans' memories on tape! Or better yet, set aside an office space or side room with a video camera and record short interviews with the veterans. Here is what I would ask in a very abbreviated interview that might last 15 to 20 minutes tops:

1. Name and spelling of it.
2. Place and date of birth?
3. Memories of Dec. 7, 1941?
4. Date drafted or of enlistment?
5. Group and Squadron assignment?
6. Position on the crew and synopsis of duties?
7. How many missions he flew?
8. Most memorable mission?
9. What effect the war had on him as a person?

It would be a shame to have all those veterans in one place and not preserve some of their memories.

Zack

I know it's been a few years since this event, but I'm very interested in finding out if anybody interviewed one of your guests in particular: Robert E. (Bob) Neely - Pilot 8th Air Force, 2nd Div, 93rd Heavy Bombardment Group, 330th Squadron.

My father, Lawrence Caver, was a tailgunner in a B-24 in Mr. Neely's crew, and I'm trying to find out any information I can about all of the crew members, with the plan of putting together a website dedicated to their memories and experiences.

Did anybody interview Mr. Neely, and maybe have any photographs of him or other information? If there was an interview, does there happen to be a transcript of it?

If Mr. Neely is still alive, does anybody know how to contact him? And if he passes away, does anybody happen to know when?

And does anybody have any advice on how I might best be able to find information about the crew's experiences (I have a full list of the crew's names and a list of their missions, so that's a good start).

Thanks for all the help!

Y'all keep mentioning Ol' 927 "rolling out" ... what's she rolling out "from"? I seem to have completely lost touch with the old gal, would appreciate a quick recap of what she's been up to for the past year or so, her current status, and the general drift of what's up for for the coming year. Sure would appreciate it! :)

Kurt,

Ol' 927 was re-branded as Diamond Lil quite some time back. She resides at the Vintage Flying Museum in Fort Worth these days, along with B-29 FIFI. Lil will be going out on tour some time in June (thru late August, I believe). She's looking really fine these days! The CAF B-29/B-24 Squadron crew really takes great care of their airplanes!

Thanks, Andy & Dean. I really oughta know to double-check the date on a deal like this, got caught napping. I know Ol' 927 reverted back to Lil, but a lot of us will always affectionately think of her as Ol' 927 because of Gary and Django. At any rate, it's always good to hear she's healthy & happy ... guess the "roll out" thing was after the nosewheel episode.
