This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Well Hellcat...the old saying that comes to mind when trying to give advice on purchasing an airplane is....."If it flies, floats or fornicates...it's cheaper to rent."

Hi Gary, no I'm not looking into investing in an airplane, not in this economy, Real Estate is the way to go right now, I was just interested in what others here thought about the idea of co-ownership.
OK, I'll delete mine too ....

Ooops. I misunderstood. Sorry about that.
I reckon stories about co-ownership will vary with dang near every circumstance. I've seen some that worked out great, and others that were just plain miserable. Sorry that's not much help.

Let me try to re-phrase the original question, and hopefully not piss anyone off, haha,
What would some of you think would be vast differences in ownership of a warbird between 4 private owners and say a small club or organization that owned a warbird? I'm sure there are many differences, but i would assume there would be many similarities as well .... I'm not looking for a fight, just some imput ...

I think with small organization (even with a relatively small pool of pilots) there's less likely to be hard feelings - assuming the organization owns the plane. Even then it can hurt if someone else is somewhat negligent and bends the plane (seriously) that you've got 2-3K invested in for whatever reason (whether or not it was an accident). I can only imagine that it'd be a lot worse if someone went out and bent something that you felt you OWNED a quarter of.

I'm not saying that at all. Some are better stewards than others. I can think of at least one SB2C that was torn in half over a sponsors insistance on flying it, airworthy or not.

Thanks for clarifying, I'm glad we agree. While anybody can be a good steward or a neglectful one, I can see a little more room for the latter where one may not hold as high stakes in the game.

Actually, you shouldn't have to collect from each partner, you should be billing the club as a whole, let the bickering stay amongst them. I've worked on a few airplanes that were in partnerships or clubs & when they asked if I'd bill each one their percentage, I told them "no way". If they want someone else to do the work, because they'll send out 2 - 10 bills separately, they're welcome to do so.

I wasn't in the club [I'm not a pilot] but a friend of mine was. The way they did it... They bought the plane out right $8000.00 each. [8 guys] Then they always brought it back full of gas. Then they put in the kitty $25.00 per hour flying time. That way the ones that used it more, paid more of the maintainance. They seemed to be happy about the way it was working, the last time I talked to him. It was good for me too. My friend took me up pretty often, and I helped with the gas and the $25.00 per hour to get a chance to fly.
