Mike,

Question #1: Is there a T-33 displayed in Port Hueneme (Oxnard)...
Aerial Visuals - Location Dossier - Port Hueneme - T-33
>> Never heard of one there in the recent past. Why do you think so?

Question #2: Can anyone tell me if there is a MiG-15 static at the airport in Redlands? Here is the one I am referring to...
Aerial Visuals - Location Dossier - Redlands - MiG-15
...I am asking since I would like to drop this site from my list of planned sites to free up time for a different site.
>> Both MiGs here went to the March museum

Question #3: I am hoping that someone here knows the Adelanto, Southern California Logistics Airport (formerly George AFB) well enough to answer this question. There is/was a F-4 and a F-14 stored there...
Aerial Visuals - Location Dossier - Southern California Logistics Airport (formerly George AFB) - F-14, F-4
...I would like to confirm they are still there before going out of my way to take pictures. Are they accessible to the public or at the least in view from a public vantage point?
>> What F-14!!?? F-4C 63-7519 is still there, but last time I saw it, it was too far away for photos.

Question #4: Is there anything interesting (warbird related) that is usually parked outside at the Santa Monica airport? If so where? There may be a DC-3 displayed/parked in view from a public vantage point...
Aerial Visuals - Location Dossier - Santa Monica Municipal Airport - C-53
>> As you know from USAMOOS, an R4D-3 is preserved in a park here. The only other warbird regularly seen outside is SNJ-4 N7077C.

Question #5: Is there a T-33 stored or displayed at the Hemet airport?
Aerial Visuals - Location Dossier - Hemet Ryan Airport - T-33
>> Not to my knowledge. Where did you get that info from?

Regards,
Andy Marden

Hi Andy!

Before I found your books, my sources of information came from a number of places, including websites with data I suspect were out-of-date. This is likely one of those cases. I'll remove it from my trip plan as a potential site to visit as it is likely one of those cases where it was once displayed, but was removed long ago.

Like #1, the information is likely old. I like to leave the potentially "old ones" in the database just in case someone comes along and is able to tell me something about it. In thoses cases I pass the information on to you. It doesn't often happen, but it does happen. I will look around for a T-33 when I am at Hemet.

Don't tell me this is one of those rare cases where I can tell you about a "new one"!?!? If you follow this link...
ImageAerial Visuals - Location Dossier - Southern California Logistics Airport (formerly George AFB) - F-14, F-4
...then scroll down to the map, click the satellite button and zoom in on Site B you will see it. It is even less likely than the F-4 I will have a chance to see it as it is well away from the beaten path.

Thanks for the tip. I won't waste my time visiting now.

I remember the Dak from your book, but if I remember correctly there is no location information for the part. It may not even had been formerly displayed yet when UMOOS went to print. I supect the DC-3 I have noted is the R4D you have going to the park. So the question remains, where is it now?

Thanks for the info Andy.

Mike

Do you want to find locations of displayed, stored or active aircraft? Then start with the The Locator.
Do you want to find or contribute to the documented history of an aircraft? If so then start with the Airframes Database.

Below are the unanswered questions from below and some new questions. Thanks to everyone for the help so far.

Mike

Question #7: I assume the aircraft displayed at North Island NAS are off limits to the public. I doubt there are exceptions, but I must ask. Are there?

Question #8: At Miramar there are three aicraft displayed (C-54, C-117 and C-119). Are these aircraft accessible to the general public? There is a storage compound a few blocks away. Is it in public view?

I have been trying to tell if the base is closed to the public or not. I assume so, but I don't see a gate in the satellite images.

Question #9: Apparently the Montgomery Memorial Museum (San Diego) has an outer wing panel from a B-32. Considering there are no survivors of that type, the panel would be cool to see. The problem is that I can find no website for the museum which gives museum hours, etc. Does anyone know anything about this museum or how the panel is displayed?

Question #10: Another post on WIX indicated the Martin Mars waterbomber is contracted to California from June 15 onwards. It is to be based at Lake Elsinore. Does anyone know if it will be there earlier than June 15. I have my fingers crossed as I will be passing by Lake Elsinore on my way from SD to LA.

Question #11: The museum website for the Blackbird Air Park in Palmdale indicates the museum is open at 10 AM. It looks like the aircraft are outside and one could walk up to them at any time. Can anyone confirm? I would like to visit there much ealier than 10 AM. I assume, but would like to confirm, I will be able to walk around them ealier in the morning.

Question #12: The website for the Joes Davies Air Park (adjoining the Blackbird Air Park) says it is only open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. How much is visible from the outside?

Question #13: There are a number of interesting things to see around Van Nuys. Is there a F-104 displayed somewhere in the area? This is not be be confused with the one in Burbank.

Yup, you can walk right up to, & under them... when the museum is open, the rest of the time the gates are locked.

My kid at the Air Park:

My kid outside Lockheed, look over her right shoulder. The gravel area directly behind her currently has the F104 parked on it. That concrete pad under her right arm is where the front wheel sits..
The T33 is hidden by the fence in this pic, if you look thru the fence, directly below the black vertical stripe on the building to the left it passes right behind the cockpit

If you get to the area earlier go to Lockheed first, there's also an F4 Phantom on a stick outside the Lancaster Sheriffs Station (Sierra Hwy & Lancaster Blvd), an F15 outside the Jethawks ball park (Ave I at the 14freeway) & a Douglas SkyRocket on a stick at the local community college (30th St West & Ave K)

I've seen just last seek an operable SNJ or AT-6 parked outside on the North side of the runway adjacent to Cloverfield Park. There may be other warbirds I'm unaware of. The DC-3 is mounted on an elevated 3-pole support on the East side of the airport in a public park nearest to the Centinela Ave. entrance.

Just up the street from the Spitfire Grill :)

P51 Cottonmouth is also at SM, as is a Stearman.

There are 5 A4D SkyWarriors on the east side at Ratheon Flight Test. There are also a few T38's, an F5 & a 2 seat F5(not a T38) & some Sia Marchetti's on the west side, but not accessable to the public. North of the tower there is the Condor Sqdrn which has about 12 T6's parked along the fence line. Also a DC3 on the east side along with a P51 & T6 & anotehr P51 hidden away in a hangar on the west side.

There "may" be a DC2 there next week sometime....
