The 6th SOS is descended from the 6th FS of the 1st Air Commando Group.

I was just commenting, how I liked how they were paying homage to their heritage by wearing the stripes on their current aircraft.

Kinda like the 23rd FG does by still wearing the Flying Tigers Sharksmouth of their A-10s.

I visited them last year, and they have a heritage park with aircraft on display that trace the roots of the squadron back to WWII. The aircraft are kept in really nice shape.

Sadly the lease is up on the Basler, she departed about 15 months ago.
