On a similar note, there used to be a Connie used as arestaurant in New Orleans many years ago. Anyone remember or know what happened to it?

I remember seeing Eastern Airlines flying Connies on the Washington New York shuttle in the late 60's.
At night it was fun to see them take off to the north [runway 36]and make a sharp right turn right after liftoff and show 4 blue flamethrowers as they banked right and then an immediate left as they followed the Annicosta river northward.
Jets were not allowed that departure due to noise abatement.

I would be willing to bet that the Planes of Fame would get theirs flying in relativly short order if they needed to (for somthing like a movie). My friend Mark Calderwood was one of the guys who went down to Baton Rouge to rescue that airplane (it must be about 15 years ago). From what I have been told the airplane is in good condition. They also have a beautiful interior inside.
It is a really expensive airplane to operate and I think there somtimes isn't as big a demand for it on the airshow circuit as the military warbirds.

I'm helping with the General Mitchell Fld (KMKE) WI ANG Open house at the 128th Air Refueling Group's ramp May 9-10. The officer coordinating visiting aircraft asked me to help him get some warbirds there. They'll provide expenses and fuel for everyone to get home so the warbirds gotta get themselves there on their own nickel. They might be able to tanker some extra fuel to get home to cover the fuel used to get there but a couple of heavy iron warbirds hogged it all a few years ago so they're asking crews to be reasonable since the 100LL budget is limited. Jet-A on the other hand...well, it's an aerial refueling unit so they got plenty for the kerosene burners. :D 8)

Are you talking about the one sitting on top of the disco ("Crash Landing"..?) in New Orleans? If so, it was broken up around 1982-83.

I was picking up an aircraft for work this morning in Tulsa. One of the projects going on in the hanger was a Super Connie. The only thing I saw in the one hangar I was in were flight controls and cowlings.

The parts you saw in OK are most likly the parts for the L1649 in main thay where sent to the luftanzsa shop there for rework.

For those who want to talk propliners I have opend a new thred over in Vintage on the airline history museum in KC.
