Yellow P-38

Well, well, Dick Phillips. A photo of N74883 in the yellow colors. Have you been holding out on me??? Interesting to see that the plane doesn't have yellow wings, and an olive??? anti glare panel. Where is it shot?

So, this is not the red and white P-38 on display at the Fantasy of Flight restoration shop facility?
How did this P-38 crash and what remains were left of it? I am curious if anyone has an idea of where Kermit might be keeping it in storage.

No, the red/white plane is Bob Kucera's old photo mapper that was stranded in Paraguay until 1974, when Bob Diemert rescued it. Kermit Weeks got it around 80-81, and has it in storage for the moment. N6961 crashed on take-off from Salt Lake City when some rubberized fabric got lodged in right engine. Not sure if the plane flipped upside down before hitting the ground.

Can someone tell me what those 2 air scoops are on the front end of the engine cowling, the large one and the smaller one below it? Also ,there is one up on the turbo charger if someone can identify it.Thanks.

The upper cowling scoop is for exhaust cooling. The lower round scoop directs air around the spark plugs. The scoops on top of the wing/tail boom are for turbocharger cooling. (Turbochargers have been removed on yellow P-38.)
