The one that I miss the most is the Sussex NJ show. Another big little show. Lots of warbirds. My first experience with seeing warbirds in person after reading abuot them and building models for years

Madera down in CA; and Boeing Field and Paine Field up here in the Northwest.

Breckenridge for sure lynn, but what about our Fiesta
Airshow at Stinson? Six years of a better every year show that the same 3,000 people came to see every year. The Harrier was hard to beat.

The CAF AIR SHOW'S at Denton TX I dont belive that their not too many places where on a Friday After noon before the Airshow that one could see a True Ghost Squadron flying in formation of FIFI, Diamond Lil Texas Raiders or it might of been SM out of Arizona, Chuckie two or three B-25' TBM's F4F F4U P-51's R4D' a Gallal of T-6's B-13 and many other that were all flying at the same time all over the DFW area ! Wow that was almost as neat as the show it self . one year had the Blue Angles another year the Micro Jet from the James Bond Movie. Great times great Memories !

Warbirds Over Kalamazoo. It ran for 4 years with the museum collection flying and then one without them...just wasn't the same. The peak year was probably 1998- 8 P-51s, the Collings bombers, Getchell's Sea Fury and Kermit's B-26 were some of the highlights. The had the Legacy Flight that year with an F-18, Wildcat, Corsair, Hellcat, Tigercat and Bearcat all in formation. And of course the usual Dale Snodgrass demos in the museum Corsair and John Ellis flying aerobatics in the Tigercat.

The final show with the museum aircraft was also really good and remains to this day the only time I have ever seen a T-34 lead a Corsair in a formation fly-by (thanks Jim and Cathy). There were always about 30-40 T-6s, plus BT-13s, Stearmans, Yaks, etc as well. You never knew what would show up and when. It was one of the few shows I can remember where you wouldn't leave Sunday afternoon because there was still the possibility of something showing up.

You could always stand almost right next to the aircraft when they started up too. You just don't get that at airshows anymore.

I didnt attend any of the Breckenridge shows, so I cant compare. But for me it was the Harlingen show. Especially in the 70's!

Manchester (MHT) New Hampshire in the late 80's and early 90's. Ed Stead of Stead Aviation was the prime mover. He owned a DeHaviland Vampire and later a Hawker Hunter. The warbird show was very good most years. Saw my first Hawker Hurricane and PBY there, Mustangs, Corsairs, P-40s etc. I actually got ride from Laconia in 909 to Manchester one day and returned for the show and as a result volunteered restoring the Collings TBM for a number of years.

A test pilot crashed the Hunter and Ed got sued. The airport grew into a regional reliever for Logan (BOS) and didn't want the hassle of airshows.
A real shame. I remember standing on the flight line one show and hearing what sounded like bursts of thunder in the distance. Turned out to be an F-15 about 15 miles away at 20,000 feet going in and out of burner while waiting for his cue.

My bid has to be Frederick, orginially planned to be an east coast CAF sponsored it started off great. The first year the line-up included both B-17's, Tora, the Zero, SB2C, SBD, FM-2 and a host of others (including my favorite Lady Lodestar). The 29 and 24 were off site located at Martinsburg but showed up in the script as planned. Then came the year with at least 4 B-17's. When Stars and Stripes got their TBM out of Canada they had 5 TBM's which were the most I ever saw until Thunder had their show with 13 TBM's on the line.
The layout was great, close to large population centers and highways that got folks in and out easily. If it comes back this year, GREAT but sooner or later there needs to be a show back there again.

When I arrived here in the Mysterious East back in 1980 there were two shows every year you HAD to see. Hamilton, for the old warbirds, and London for the new ones. Also, London Rib Fest for those of us into hot air balloons and/or BBQ ribs .

Hamilton has been gone for years, and London is on-again off-again, with mixed attendance. Still, when they do the London twilight shows, its almost like the Good Old Days ....
