I remember reading a story a few years ago about the Tu-4. Our government became aware of the airplane when notified by a US tire maker that the Russians had placed a large order for tires that matched the B-29 tire specs exactly.

Supposedly the surviving engineers say that is an urban myth. The Tupolev engineers could figure out what was a combat repair and what was not. Despite the claim that Stalin wanted the airplane copied exactly that didn't happen either since it was simpler to install some Soviet built equipment rather than copy the American.

Sorry for the big misunderstanding. I guess it is a big indication of everyone's enthusiasm for warbirds.

Recently a "German" technician was sent to our factory for software upgrades. We worked together for months, developing software, him the programmer, me the technician. He was actually an Albanian, and gave enormous insight to the problems of Serbia. The guy truly had a heart of gold. One of the best programmers I had ever seen. A self made man of true manifest-destiny spirit who loved America and how they took a stand against genocide. I was saddened at some of the stories of his country, as I had put them together with what I had read about the implosion of the Serbia area toward the end of WWII.

We spent a great deal of time laughing. About how the 1980's Yugo factory became an AK-47 factory. I talked about my knowledge of the Yugo, which gave him great laughs. Then the going's on of the three ethnic groups. It was a treasured experience. I wish them all well, and that peace and commen sense presides everywhere.
