There are still 2 Privateers out there? #124 and 126? Or #121?
The registry doesn't say anything beyond 2002 on any of the above.
Did they sell at the auction? Who owns them now? I sure would love to see one restored to 1945 configuration, flying or static.

there are 4 PB4Ys, 2 are owned by the founders of H&P, one is Yanks, and the other is owned by a private collector in Phx. As fas as I know, all are still there. The H&P planes were the first to have the spar repairs done, and the other 2 were in the hangar getting their spars fixed.

So all 4 are returning to the skies?

All are having the AD complied with, and all had spar cracks, so thy will be flyable, but how much they will be flown is unknown

I never knew B-24's had spar issues. What are they? Where does the problem happen on the spar?

The spar issue on the Privateer came about after one of them lost a wing while on a "bomb run" fighting a fire a few years back.

I have some photos of the cracks, I'll dig them out and post them

Thanks for the pics Paul. Any insight if the remaining 3 will be restored and kept airworthy?
Mon Nov 24, 2008 5:23 pm
remaining 3 what?
KC-97s = 6 others apart from Clay's - I doubt any will be made flyable
C-119s = 3 remain - one is going to be attempted to get airworthy
Privateers = 3 remain (although I only saw 2) and one just left - I wish I'd known it was due to leave as I would have happily gone up there to get some flying shots -
see here for info on these
(I'm not including aircraft already in the Firefighting Museum.)

The pictures in the gallery at the link above were taken in August of 2006, a few weeks before the auction.
Thanks for remembering I had taken those Roger.
