I'd advise against it. You see, they've got a B-17G there painted as 'Memphis Belle'!

That's funny!

I've been to Dux and Genny, and you can't compare them. There's only one Duxford!

Duxford didnt have a disasterous separation a decade ago, give it time. Geneseo is still growing and recovering.

If the NMUSAF moves to Geneseo and the Chino plus Thunder Over Michigan airshows both relocate there, THEN it'll be like Duxford.

Why would anyone want to move the USAFM to Geneseo? :? Also its worth to note that the USAFM is a static museum Geneseo is a flying museum. Sorry to get everyones panties in the bunch for remarking Geneseo as Duxford. Personnally I see it simular but apparently I am wrong like usual.

I am just saying that is what it would take for Geneseo to be like Duxford. They have a giant static museum like the USAFM (IWM), multiple flying collections, and the best warbird show in the world. The only thing the two places have in common is grass. Nobody's panties are bunched, but you seem unaware of the difference in scale. It is like saying that the EAA Chapter Pancake Breakfast Fly-In in Canton, South Dakota is the Oshkosh of South Dakota. Kind of true, but ... uh ... not. :)

I wouldn't say you're wrong, it was just your impression of what Geneseo is like. Nothing wrong with that.

I think their reference is that in order to make Geneseo more "Duxford like", you would need a lot more groups located in Geneseo.

And to clarify one thing, I believe the Imperial War Museum, who owns Duxford, doesn't have much that actually flies, so it's mainly a static display of IWM equipment. It's Duxford's tenants that fly their aircraft, so in reality, a mix of the NMUSAF and several private collections that fly their aircraft would make Geneseo more like Duxford, but the actually history and buildings at Duxford would still make it more unique. History actually happened there, Geneseo was created 20 plus years ago.

Geneseo is a really great time! But to compare it to Duxford is a bit unfair.

I really enjoy the show, but I always look forward to the end of the show when the crowds leave and the crews and AV-Nuts hang out and eat some good food and drink some beer / Wine and talk late into the night. That is what I think makes Gennie so great and unique!

I only started going to Geneseo in 98 after the split. Can anyone compare the late '80s-early '90s Geneseo shows to Duxford? I would assume that Dux has many more fighters, but did the heavies put Genny up there? How did crowds compare?

Rich

Genny has always been known for their bombers. :D Its not quite like that anymore but it used to be back in the old days.
