Transferred to Turkey 31 Mar 49. Does not appear in any of Arthur Peary's Douglas DC-3 Survivors books. Probably not still around

Van, that is an incredible find, one of the best I have seen on WIX.

I have a book on The Luftwaffe and the part on Goering is interesting, like most men who have done something large, either good or bad, he was not a simple case. In early life he was even friends with and protective of Jews, but then took the compromise. Too bad he could not have risen to lead Germany instead of Hitler. He knew when the war was being lost and even tried to work on Peace negotiations. Maybe a lot of suffering could have been avoided.

This is a facinating thread and quite an amazing story.

So, do we have an idea who this German man in front of the C-47 was?

Would be worth posting the photo on the Axis History Forum. There is an incredible amount of specialised knowledge on there.

Thanks. I'm pretty fair at doing research. Hence how I pulled all of the information together about the C-47 cockpit that I got from Gary.

Interesting photo, I thought this might be part of this sequence showing Rudel and Galland being transported on a C-47

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lw3ozfutplo

They still have the cap eagle on their Peaked caps.

Here's a still from that bit of film. Sooner or later swastikas were removed if you were a POW.
A lot of times you can date POW pics by the national insignia. As a POW while the war was going on they kept the eagle and swastika, after Germany lost swastikas were ordered removed. Not saying it was enforced to the enth degree, but most followed accordingly.
