The Photo Tour in the Morning. What is that all about? You get in early and see the a/c before anyone else gets there, is that it? Not that that is bad.

Yep. That is exactly what the photo tour is. I haven't done that myself, but I have been near the front of the line for 9 AM opening. It appears the people on the tour can easily move about and get their pics quickly.

The photo tour runs from 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. daily. Photographers are allowed to spend two hours (supervised) on the air show ramp without any public interference.
It is an excellent opportunity to photograph everything in ideal conditions.

A couple of questions. For the photo tours, are the planes orientated to take best advantage of the morning sun (i.e. not shooting directly into the sun to get a front view of the plane)? Also, at the end of the photo tour (9am), are participants allowed to stay on the grounds or must they exit and re-enter with everyone else?

I am not a YAF member, so my comments are based on my observations. The planes are not reoriented. However the morning sun provides light from the 8-7 o'clock direction with the way most of the planes are parked. I would think they allow you to stay on the grounds, but perhaps someone from the YAF can confirm.

Mark,
In the past, most of the aircraft are oriented East/West with their noses pointing East. We are trying for the same ramp set-up again this year. Obviously, with the loss of our hangar we may have to re-orient the ramp a bit but we always try for the most ideal ramp layout. We had the photo tour fill up very quickly last year and we heard nothing but great things about it, hence why we are running it again.
After the 7:00 - 9:00 a.m. session the photographers get to stay on the grounds. We won't inconvenience our photo tour guests by having them leave and re-enter the grounds.
