It is really awesome to see the CAF and Collings Foundation help out a fellow warbird museum. Great job to Rick H and to Gary and all of the others working to rebuild this museum.

Doug mentioned plans at the Midland pilot's briefing for an airshow this coming spring in Conroe to benefit Lone Star! I'm sure we will all do our best to support it. I know I plan to be there!!

I can't tell you how great it is to hear about everyone chipping in to help out.
While I am no lnger in the trenches with Trae, Canso, and Rick H I still think about this as my second home. The overall outpouring of help with all this is really been encouraging and heartwarming. I can't think of an organisation that has meant more to my life than LSFM and to see it go through all of this from a distance has been really hard, but with everything I have seen and heard I have no doubt that it will survive and most likely be better than ever.
To see so many other organization giving there own valuable time and energy to help really says a lot about the warbird community as a whole. Even though we will argue about the correct paint scheme, or what is the most important thing that needs to be saved, I think we all have the same end goal in mind- to preserve and honor the memory of those that came before us. (and a ride in an old aiplane is pretty cool too)

I can never repay the kindness of the wonderful people I have met from Lone Star. Thanks to them I have some treasured memories flying in the B-17 ( and the B-25 ).
My initial thoughts were to come over and help in some way ~ even if it was just pushing a broom for a week. But having had time to pause for thought, I've realised that my personal resources can be put to better use if I just donate the air fare to Lone Star.
Bless you all for coping with personal and work issues and still finding time to support the museum.

As an Air Force guy, I am amazed that the Navy men are checked out on those high tech tools! I think that is about the level that my pay grade was. Seriously, I'll bet those guys are glad to be doing something worthwhile to help rather than sitting behind a desk somewhere or outside cleaning up dead animals. Lone Star will owe them all a ride in a B-25 or 17. You can see the floor of the musuem, with it's epoxy paint cleans up well. Whatever the condition of the planes, it will be a boost to all working there to get the general cleanup well along. I wish they had a big tank of fresh water like a giant swimming pool that they could imerse any plane in up to the depth that the salt water reached.

A fresh water tank would be great. I heard Boeing did that with the B-307 when it ditched in Puget Sound a few years back.

I don't know about a tank but I heard that one of the refiniries sent a couple of semi tankers of water and the airplanes have been hosed out and flushed.

ALL of the airplanes have been hosed out and flushed ! Most have been treated with Corrosion X. All of the vintage vehicles have been hosed out and flushed. Some of the static engines have been flushed.
AMOCO BP has sent over two tanker loads of freshwater. We're working on #2 now.
