It's not a Mustang, that's why. :(

I think a lot of the transports are underrated and sadly overlooked by the airshow circuit. These planes often flew in worse conditions and in more hazardous situations than a lot of the bombers and fighters that we admire so much. Reading the stories of flying in Burma are quite interesting and often hair raising.

The C-46 is one of my favorites. I would love to see one fly in person someday...or better yet take a ride on one. You gotta admire these planes that still earn their keep 60+ years after they've been built.

My hope is for more interest in transports on the airshow circuit. But the recent sale of the MATS Connie to Korea for static display shows that interest in transports is low, while costs of running them are high.

On another topic, wasn't there talk of there being a television show based on Alaskan cargo flying, similar to shows like Ice Road Truckers? I heard that Everts Air and their C-46s were to be a main focus of the show. Has anyone heard anything about this recently? Perhaps exposure on television in this manner is our best hope in generating greater interest in these aircraft.

If you go by www.warbirdalley.com there are 50+ still flying. I agree great aircraft!

I think warbirdalley.com is a little off there... no way there are 50+ still flying. Between 10-12 will be more likely.

Dad flew them in the South Pacific. If I remember right, I think he said they were easy to fly because they had hydraulic boosted controls.....John

The CAF''s "China Doll" and the soon to be ex-CAF "Tinker Belle" are the only two I'm aware of that fly in warbird configuration. The rest are operated by civilian transport companies. I think Buffalo Airway's operates a couple. I think there was another service that operated them, could it be Air Manitoba? Or am I just inventing airlines late in the night for no apparent reason?
china doll is an ex ortner air service bird that flew out of wakeman ohio. check out my article on google on the ortners. the most c-46's still flying to my knowledge are out of alaska.

The show will be focused on Buffalo Airways of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. I believe they will be covering all of his aircraft, but mainly DC-3s DC-4s, C-46s, and CL-215s. Shooting is supposed to start in November.
