Not to hijack this thread but the last one in the lineup is the famed Conroy Tri-turbo Three N23SA equipped with 3 PT6A turbine engines and flown in Polair colors. http://www.douglasdc3.com/polair/polair.htm

Wasn't there one these bananas shown landing at the beginning of the last (American) remake of Godzilla pretending to be a Russian helicopter?

If I'm wrong slap me and call me Susan.

Absolutely crappy pic of the banana at Basler.

I'm getting a bit confused here..Is this a "before" photo of the Basler H-21?

Nope. This pic was taken within the last 12 months, and is how she has looked for at least the last 5 years. When I asked the nice lady at the Basler front desk, she responded that it is simply being stored for the unnamed owner...no current plans for restoration that she was aware of.

Ahhh...thanks Dan! I think I understand, 262crew was replying to BigGrey's original question...Not,
to MD's Basler comment.

Given 262C's location, I'm guessing his photos are of the the Seattle bird, maybe N6797 s/n 53-4366. Of
course the tailfin with the s/n is not in the photo!! It looks like at one time it was as well taken care
of and outfitted in detail as the Hall's Springdale, Ark. bird. Just needs a little luv on the NMF.( )

The H-21 really suffered in 'Nam...between hot low density climate problems and the VC shooting
the sh*t out of 'em..you had balls to keep going back for more as a crew. I've seen a friends photos of a
junkyard around Saigon..I think, Ton Son Nhut..of scrapped H-21's stacked like cordwood. Sick!!!

I really wish someone in this "neck of the woods" would get the Arkansas bird(s) back in the air...she was
a beauty!!! :D

Thanks Chris Brame for the cleaned-up photo...very nice!!

And here's why a better angle isn't possible: The H-21 at Basler is well-defended by Gooneys, a Martin, and barbed wire (Plus the sleet was hard enough to convince me to just shoot pics through the car window  ).

Dan I think your Martin is a Convair?

Yes, the Classic Rotors machine was used for the movie. It was a great deal for the film company and CR. The film company figured they could pass the H-21 off as a Russian helicopter since most of the public has not seen one in years or not at all. CR got some very nice maintenance work done on the bird as well.
My friend Frank V. flew the banana in the movie.

Still Love brats and I need a fix!! :D

I was scheduled to go with the CAF Dixie Wing and help sell rides in Red Nose.
The Dixie wing cancelled at the last minuet and I had no place to stay.
When a place came up to stay I had given up my vacation time at work !
Just can't win!

The H-21 that 262crew posted belongs to the MoF, it's currently @ the resto facility here @ KPAE. It was booted out of the glass palace @ KBFI to make room for other exhibits. It is one of several brought to KPAE years ago by an unnamed individual who wanted to use them for heli-logging.

There's an 1820 in the aft fuselage.
