Very true!

GARY HILTON wrote:Last time I was there, there were two F-86's...a Mig 21 and a Mig-17, two T-33's....as well as the planes in the photos on this thread, there also was an F-111 sitting behind some hangars...

They are all still there.

Moonlight, thanks for the information.
With your help I was able to get permission to take a few more pictures.

F5D?

Sat Aug 09, 2008 8:32 pm

Neil Armstrong's F5D (NASA 802) is still at his museum in Wapakoneta,Ohio...a few miles north of Dayton. Merle's F5D is in
far better shape than Neil's!
Both were used by NASA for some time, and #802 was finally retired in 1970, and flown to Ohio. It had been used as a chase aircraft for many of the M2-F2 flights, as well as a flight profile trainer for those same lifting-body vehicles. Both F5Ds were also used for simulating landings of the Dyna-Soar vehicle, which was never built.

Merle's Collection

Hi Blue....WOW.....what a great set of photographs of the collection. The sunrise photos are outstanding. I knew I should have jumped in the truck and followed you around on your vacation......<g>

The F-111 I would have loved to have seen again. The electronics bay was my home away from home for several years back in the very early 70's.

Blue,

On the EAST side of the airfield, there is an open hangar, with a DH Sea Venom IIRC, a MiG (a -15 I believe).

On the North side, there is a closed hangar, with a T-33, a couple of F-86s and an A-4 painted in Blue Angels markings.

Saludos,

Tulio

Tulio,
Thanks.
I did not see the A-4, but there were several parts (wings,engines...) laying around by the hanger.
Looked like a lot of work had been going on.

I did see a hanger with the green Mig ,a SEA VENOM and a T-33.
I did not post those pictures as they were in the hanger... and I imagine that they were in there for a reason.
I feel lucky that Merle gave me permission to take pictures as it was and what I saw in the open was great!
The Mikoyan Gurevich MIG-21F was very very cool. Lots of pictures of that!

Blue,

When I visited, I went to the offices, and since the owner was not there, I asked permission from a very nice lady, who looked to be the second in command there : )

She was really cool, and granted permission. Thus, I went to the hangar where the Sea Venom is stored, and also to the closed hangar. A guy was there, working on the airplanes, and again, I asked for his OK to shoot pix, and he was also very accomodating.

BTW, if you are still in the area, on the Interstate heading West and right past the exit for Ontario, on your [R] side [North] there is a military surplus / vehicle dealer, and it has an OH-58 on display.

Saludos,

Tulio
