"Marinell" First flight correction - Apologies, I got cobfused over my dates - the P-51 first flight was on Saturday 26th July at approx 12.15pm and not on the friday as stated in my previous post

Been meaning to add this, finally got off my ace and am doing so ...
A month or so ago I was contacted by an author who is writing an article on the Marinell restoration, and he asked if I had any additional info on the "B" vs "D" individual aircraft letter discussion. He had seen it here. This author stated that the owner of the ship had seen reference in the past to a "Crash Report" (which was in fact the MACR) on the original kite that had her as 5Q-B, as she is currently marked. The owner, however, was willing to change the marking if evidence for "D" could be obtained.
Long story short, I quoted the Little Friends site, which shows "Marinell" as 5Q-D:

I had no evidence to contradict the Little Friends site, so I passed that info along. I also said that I would send the author the entire MACR #7775 from Footnote.com for this loss to use in his article, and maybe I missed a code marking reference to "B", "D", or whatever. This part of the MACR is usually from on-site inspection of the wreckage, and in most cases this information in the MACRs as we see them today are translated from German/other authority documents and later added to the official record.
The author replied prior to my sending him the MACR in high-rez that he was aware of the Little Friends site, and that in fact Marinell had previously been listed as "B" on the site, as the restoration is painted today, but had recently been changed to "D" for some reason. I couldn't help him there ...
I sent the MACR, and lo and behold the author's careful reading of the entire file revealed a little blurb on page 5, easily missed, which shows the Marinell wreckage as being "B <star> 5Q". Obviously, the person who took the data observed the plane's right side.
The author was very happy to have hard evidence to show his friend the plane's owner. I'll pass along when the article is published if I get notified as promised. Oh, FYI, in no way am I posting this to "scoop" the author, as I have no interest in doing that, and from what I understand the "controversy" as we have discussed here isn't a point of the article anyway.
In the interests of "the historical record", here's the portion showing the code markings on the wreckage:
