Yeah, I think I will skip the gator "vacation".
Between the snakes and the hawks, I might have to get a suit of armor just to take photos of warbirds.

If the snake turned out to be only a Bull Snake, what was it that made the rattle sound. Maybe the rattlesnake you didn't see?

There are a number of snakes that "Rattle" their tail if threatened. Rattling against brush, dry leaves and such does make a rattling kind of sound, not quit the same as a rattler, but enough to get your attention.

Oops, did some research, it is an exhale that produces the bullsnake's rattle sound

First, it hisses, or forcibly exhales through a bisected glottis, which flaps back and forth producing a very convincing "rattle" sound
