Might be. I have seen pics of that thing somewhere. It is mostly composite, and for a replica, it was pretty realistic.

We don't know how accurate the article is, but some things seem a little doubtful. It is suppose to burn only 36 gal per hr, Total, yet carry 500 gallons of fuel. Do you really need 13 hours of fuel? And it is supposed to Gross only 6000 lbs.fully loaded. Now this is with 3000 lbs of gas, 2 seats, 2 engines, ac, oxygen, etc. Sounds hard to believe . And it is supposed to use hopped up car engines, Chevy. This sure didn't work well when it was tried with Toyota engines in the Pond Racer. It was a dog for performance and wasn't safe either.

I think they are going to use the PRSU units like they have on the Thunder Mustangs. Since the Falconer engines are GM based, they should bolt right up, and they are reliable. If they use motors in fairly stock tune they should be fine. That Pond Racer was just WAY overstressing that Nissan V-6 engine design. As for the fuel load etc I agree something sounds fishy.

Another scale P-38 project is this one based in San Angelo TX. The FAA has signed off on it, and it is ready to fly, but sadly probably never will. It is powered by two IO-360s.

Toyota engines in the Pond Racer

I thought they were Nissan based engines?

A composite P-38 sounds interesting...wasn't someone building a composite P-51 a while back?

Also...so as not to totally hijack the thread...I hope there is another P-38 in the shop...Would be great to see. (especially after the Red Bull machine leaves us..)

Dang MX beat me to it on the Pond thing...

Turbo alcohol burning Nissan V-6 engines to be exact. There are two composite Mustangs. The thunder Mustang of which several are flying, and Murdo Cameron's full scale bird. One of the Cameron examples has flown, but it was powered by a turboprop engine. Murdo is building a new one with an Alliso to race at Reno.

WOW, that scale San Angelo P-38 looks pretty cool. Who built that?

I can't recall the gentleman's name right now to save my life. He and his wife are very nice people.

Tom Reilly at one time had a collection of P-38 parts that were I believe from two different wrecks. Not sure if he still has them, but that could certain start some one on a restoration project. (If they had enough money to dump into the all the little pieces!)

Looks like all you need to do is hook up with Gary and that P-43 will be up and running in no time. Will be great to have two of them in the air escorting the B-32!

Nice! How come it will probably never fly? :(

Is Weeks' P-38 one of the stash down at Murray's place at Precision in Australia?
