What if there are problems with these new engines? Are they going to be covered by a warranty?
I noticed a post on here about the Martin Mars fire bomber, did ya know your favorite place does the engines for it?

Yes, there is a warranty, and I'm sure we're going to stumble across a problem or two. Hopefully, nothing too substantial though. I am quite aware that my "favorite" engine shop does the engines for the Mars. Perhaps the Mars folks have better luck with 'em than we did. All I know is our last $185,000.00 overhaul was delivered to us with 4 scrap cylinders (head/barrel separation) and we had to rob some cylinders from one of our last N.O.S. engines to replace them, which the engine shop reluctantly did here in our hangar, before I hung the engine. They then wrote us a letter saying they would no longer honor any warranty they'd given us in the past.

Sorry, you got me wound up a little there. Rant over. Good luck to the Mars guys. That's a cool airplane they've got. I wonder if they need any spares?

Gary

Perhaps not. How long was the delay because of engine problems/changes before it flew down to Shasta?

Stay tuned.

Gary

Well we've been very patient. And tuned. So ?????????

Just wondering how long to overhaul something like an R-4360 and cost?

If the supplied engine had non servicable parts installed on a supposedly yellow tagged engine (AIRWORTHY) shouldn't and wouldn't the local branch of the Freely Associating A$$holes like to have that information so they could pull a CASE and NACIP audit on them????

People who pull that kind of crap and then revoke their warranty (which doesn't sound very reputible anyway) should be closed and their certificate revoked because they are screwing with peoples lives and that shouldn't and will not be tolerated-either they do it right EVERY TIME or they go back to overhauling TORO lawnmowers. I absolutely hate morons like that! They need to be horse whipped!!!

engguy...chill out. Patience while having engines built is not waiting for a month, it's waiting for many months, sometimes years. We're doing what we can, and all of the workings of this project, including details, who's doing the engines, and so on, will be released in due time. I cannot and will not just throw stuff out there until there is a firm plan. We have enough rumors going on out there, I want to insure that you and everyone else interested in this project gets facts. So...as I mentioned before...Patience.

The Inspector...I can't tell you about what the Federalies should do to their certificate, but I tend to agree with you. Personally, my version of what should happen to them isn't rated PG-13 and shouldn't be posted here.

The issue with the rebuilder can be easily solved with one three minute call to the Feds and plastering the shops name and tarnished reputaion and questionable performance all 0ver the aviation 'jungle telegraph', remember we are a small and pretty much self aware group of folks and if you get your name on the jungle telegraph, you couldn't get elected dog catcher in East Podunk :!: :!: :!: :badpc:
