That appears to be MDF (multi-density fiberboard). David used same on a previous effort and have noticed other aircraft restorers have used it for form blocks. It is easily obtainable, very easy to shape, yet is strong enough to use in a hydro-press. Its one drawback is the dust from cutting and shaping.
