Any estimated time frame on the next orphan?

Awesome, just be sure to start a new thread or have Rich start one, so we can follow along as you "unwrap" your new present! We're all interested in your new "orphan"!

I'll just need directions

I'll think you'll be seeing her soon enough during next year's airshow season!

We sure will -- it will be really interesting when our dear friends from the UK come and show us how the British make and build aeroplanes. Hopefully they'll remember what happened in the revolutionary war and behave themselves. Right Fred?

Was it Fred or Achmed that will be coming?

If you toss crates full of tea in a harbor, they'll straighten up.

Cheerio.

Most likely it will reside in Texas.

No. I think they are T. F.

If we're talking about the same guy, didn't he just acquire a certain Sabre as well?

Nice! Any more photos of them flying in formation? Please?!

This could also explain why a certain TF-51D was recently spotted on the east coast, having been based in Texas with a T. F. :D

Jim,

You may already have heard this story from someone else about the name on your kite - and the later 'Moonbeam' name Bill had on his D-model ...

In 1987, when I lived near Barksdale AFB, La., I had the opportunity to spend a day with Bill Whisner, and interviewed him on-camera for a documentary a friend of ours was producing (the project was abandoned, and the guy lost the footage   ).

Anyway, Bill was originally from Shreveport (near Barksdale), but in retirement he lived in little Pineville, near Alexandria, La. He drove up to meet us, along with his buddy John Sublett (357th FG). Bill drove me around that day in his car and we had ample time to talk. We all know the story about Princess not exactly being Bill's first choice for a name, but the powers-that-be prevailed in that decision. I asked him how the Moonbeam McSwine name came to be ... he said that when he finally got his own plane to name, he deliberately chose a young lady who was pretty much the polar opposite of a "Princess Elizabeth" - he thought the Al Capp character 'Moonbeam McSwine' fit perfectly.

I still have a bunch of pics we took that day - I have one on my site on this page - 5th one from the top. I really need to scan the photos and post them here. John Sublett had a good story about Chuck Yeager and his run-in with the Officer's Mess folks - later:

Keep that beautiful plane flying proud! 8)
