Seems you are stating for all of us to get along and you basically don't care one way or the other about restorations vs recreations and so on and so on? ... I would state who cares if people here want to debate colors, schemes, history and authenticity? ... Let them, If it upsets you, don't respond and move on to something else. All you seem to be doing is complaining about other people complaining .... does that sound correct here? As for the poor fellow that got upset and took his photos home, that's too bad, but I would tend to think that if you proclaim something as authentic and have nothing to back it up, well, you get the responses you get. That would be similar to me telling you I just purchased a P-51, but I can't show you photos of it or explain anything about it. What would you think? ....... BS!!!!!! is what I would think. You state something on an open forum, you better be able to back it up. He's proven the P-51 part, just not the historic part, I hope he comes back with info someday, I would love to see his photos.

So how easy is this website? ... you don't like what you're reading? ... move on! .... you don't agree with someone's post? .... move on! .... you think someone's posts are too uptight? ... move on! .... If someone pisses you off? ... move on! ... and on and on and on. If you chose to post to a thread, then give it to em and take it from em, and If you possibly think that people here on this website, or any other one, will all just get along and post wonderful things that make you feel all warm inside .... two words ..... never happen!!!!

I have learned to read what I want to read and post what I want to post .... I have acquired tough skin from many of you with no regrets. And I have learned that I frankly could care less what people think about my posts. I'm not here to insult or degrade anyone, but also won't accept that from anyone here either. BTW What I have written above is a response to your post in general, not an insult or attack on you in anyway.

I'm having a good time here on WIX, I have enjoyed several heated debates and have learned to walk away when I feel it's time to walk away, now that I have found my "WIX sea legs" I can hang with any thread, no matter how heated it may get ...

I post when I feel like contributing to a thread, I don't post when I feel it may be a waste of my time. I have learned that if I don't care for a particular thread I simply move on to another thread, whether that thread gets heated, so be it .... If I enjoy the debate, I'll stick with it through the good posts and bad posts ... Again, if you don't like what you're reading ... tough!!! ... move on and stop your wining!! again generalizing here

k5083,
No, just asking for some fresh air in a room thats become over saturated with people who seem to want every screw clocked and every rivet to have a cert showing it was manufactured before God came down on a shaft of light and a cloud. And I've always taken the attitude that if you're gonna stir the pot, use an outboard motor.

There seems to be a great deal of breath holding over nano crap issues. Including a few over 'it should be finished as this...or that..but not THAT, where's the respect. where's the love?' to which I replied in another thread that if thats the way you feel it should be than sand all the paint off of BIG BEAUTIFUL DOLL and put hew back in her 'original' finish as FT368 or whatever. So you can marvel at the blandness of the 'warbirds' that show up at the fly-in, "look, a long line of buckets of mashed potatos, this is our lucky day kids". We could go back to painting them in big swoopy blues and metalic greens like in the late 60's early 70's.
If the owner (who pays the bill) wants the national markings painted with an orange center and pink stripes, I may not agree but it IS HIS PROPERTY isn't it?
If you go to a Friday night cruise at the local burger joint you'll see cars you really like and things that make you go 'what in the @*^+ was this guy thinking.

And by the way "W" how are you and MY A6A NATOPS manual getting along?

gary1954,
Thats my take on it too, I can't afford so I just admire..

bomberflight,
That is exactly why I never enter modelling contests-I build to suit me and no one else, if it looks good to me. end of story....

I,

I think you misread many of our posts. We are not saying we WANT everything to be correct and authentic. Nobody expects that. We are just saying we want to KNOW what is correct and authentic and what is not. It is about information, not judgment or complaining. We may from time to time state our personal preference that something be this way rather than that way, but that should not be misinterpreted as telling anyone else what to do or derogating what they have done.

As for the issues we discuss being too nano, well, we already all know how many wings a P-51 is supposed to have so it is hard to have an interesting discussion about anything but the details!

A reality check seems overdue, to get an aircraft registered as anything other than experimental one needs an ID.........................and some portion of the airframe to restore. We should be happy that the FAA often allows us to "rebuild" antiques and warbirds from "remains" that have frequently been written off as destroyed, otherwise the warbird and antique population would be much smaller. I've seen what looked like a pile of shredded beer cans in well known restorers facilities that became award winning "restorations", the value of the pile of shredded aluminum was solely in giving the restorer and the FAA a trail from the restoration to the original aircraft.

Do we all feel proud that this incident has led one warbird restoration group to withdraw photos of their latest masterpiece from the Warbird Information "Exchange"..................................personally I'm embarrassed. Added to the confrontational tone of the exchanges (my personal opinion I'm certain you will take umbrage) is the fact that this was a case of Brits honoring the sacrifice of one of their colonials..................and we still hammered them into submission.

This is the Warbird Information Exchange not the Warbird Debating Society, personally I'm here for information and pictures, the frequent contentiousness has made WIX much less interesting.

... really? ... you mean I've been fooled all this time? ...

And it wasn't a group who withdrew their photos, it was one person who couldn't take a few people asking, and respectfully I should say, asking, not demanding, some sort of proof that what he was proclaiming was true. Your welcome to re-visit the thread if you need additional explanation. No one's doubting the man and I don't remember reading anywhere where someone said he was full of BS, but how hard can it possibly be to prove what you proclaim? ... re-read my post above, when I'm done, I'm done. I've made my points here and on other threads, I'm not embarrassed in anyway. Maybe Scott and his crew can create new rules stating .... NO DEBATING ALLOWED!!! for fear of upsetting the sensitive members. ... Please ... give me a break!! .... don't like it?, can't take it? .... don't post. There's plenty of threads with photos to look at ...

If you told the FAA that you restored SN344-1943 from parts you salvaged from a mountaintop would it then be wise to proclaim on a public forum that it was in fact a new build aircraft?

As did you .... but who's counting right? .... try to enjoy yourself here, there's a lot of good stuff to read and see. Just take some well-meaning advice from a lowly, un-educated member and avoid the debates if they upset you. .... :D

Careful .... you're starting a debate here, ... and what's your point? ... prove what you proclaim, claim what you can prove ... seems simple to me.

All the debating and arguing lately really hasn't bothered me. Its kinda fun and interesting to find what everyones views are on things...even if there is a disagreement deosn't mean it should call for a problem. :?:

I have been taking everything laltely with a positive view and have not once got mad or angered. Everyone try thinking pleasant thoughts. :D

Enjoying WIX more then usual,
Nathan

I want to back up a bit and step down off my high horse .... I've done this in the past. ... Anytime I act like a hard-*ss, I'm usually being a dumb-*ss, anytime I act like I know everything, I usually know nothing .... it's obvious, ... just read my posts .... Apologies are a sign of weakness, but sometimes being weak keeps friends around ....

I would respectfully suggest that some of the old hands here, jumped down the throat of a well meaning poster...clearly the man was not used to the rough and tumble of this forum. These boards have a life of their own...dominate personalites, like minded collaborators, etc. I think some of you need to take a step back on how the guy was treated. I'm not sure you guys realize how hard you can be on newbies. They just do not speak your lingo. Slights, insults are very easy to misconstrue.
That said, I've "lurked" here for about 2 years, and I usually start my day, (early) by checking in here...for the very best in new info, input from real operators, plus scuttlebut. Its a big part of my WW 2 bird jones.
This is the first time I have been disapointed by the boards reactions.
SF,
Paul

I'd have to disagree. The subject of the P-51s ID can up on the Fly Past forum when it was registered about 3 years ago. The thread starter was the same bloke and it got really nasty. Compared to that this was a tickle and giggle
and for the last time there was no throat down jumping. Everyone was nice. We stuck to our guns but played nice-nice. The A-25 thread, well....that's a different story but at the end of the day we're all still friends and that's what counts :!:
I like the rough and tumble thing thought except were more like "Our Gang" and not the "H*ll's Angels" oops eer I mean Memphis Belle (after all she was first :bs: :butthead:)
