Gentlemen,

There is a possibility the Mosquito being offered for sale is the remains of TA717, ex N9911F, N6867C, XB-TOX, once owned by James Merizan, but who sold it to James Dearborn, a FedEx pilot. This is the only B35 that I know of, in North America, that may be the aircraft in question.

I suspect the gentlemen in Bramptom, Ontario, Canada, either acquired the remains of XB-TOX, or is acting as an agent to sell the aircraft. Though Dearborn owns the remains of XB-TOX, he did not acquire the paperwork to XB-TOX.

I may be wrong regarding the identity of the Mosquito in question, but we will have to wait and see what transpires when the aircraft is sold and registered.

A derelict Mosquito has left Canada for New Zealand. Jerry Vernon in Vancouver, BC notified me of the following information.

Re. KA114, a Canadian-built FB.26 model, was recovered from a farm in Alberta in the late 1970s. The fuselage is in sad shape but the wings are fairly good--for pattern and parts.

It was found by Ed Zalesky, former president of the Canadian Museum of Transportation and Flight in Burnaby, BC. He sold the remains to an American who plans restoring it to flying condition? KA114 now belongs to Jerry Yagen and is already down in New Zealand being restored to airworthy condition, with all-new wood.

Does anyone in New Zealand have further information on the restoration?

Gentlemen,

Sometime ago there was a thread on this site regarding the sale of an ex-Spartan Mosquito aircraft by the Calgary Air Museum.

Well it seems the aircraft is owned by the City of Calgary and was on loan to the Calgary Air Museum. The city apparently does not wish to lose control of this aircraft from its inventory of historical items.

I received an e-mail communication from an aviation researcher in Calgary who reports that, the City of Calgary has taken away the Mosquito and locked it up in safe storage, to avoid having it sold to the UK. Presumably, title still remains with the City of Calgary!!

I guess all Mosquito enthusiasts will have to wait for the next episode in this saga to determine exactly the final dispositon of this Mosquito.

Let's hope that it one day ends in a good home with an owner who has the wherewithall to restore it to its former glory. Always sad to see a potential flyer locked away out of reach with owners who have no real idea what to do with it; this particular airframe made a rather sorry sight when I saw it back in 2000.

Hey Brandon,I'm kinda doubting its the Mossie that we saw parked in the same lot as his Draakens are.All I saw there were Two Merlins in mounts and a pile of kindling that vaguely resembled wings,etc.doubtful doncha think Brandon? Tim :shock:

Regarding the Mossie being rebuilt to fly in New Zealand. By all accounts all the wood is being done by Glyn Powell and a local restoration firm whose name escapes me but they have done a lot of P40s are doing all the metalwork and systems installation. Man I hope I don't get hit by a bus before I see it fly!!

The Mosquito fusleage arrived in Windsor recently from Gly Powell. this willl be a major boost to their mossie project.

Update
Good news for Calgary and the Mosquito. Now hopefully both it and the Hurricane can finally be restored and placed on public display wherever that may be..

The commitee of council today voted unanimously to RETAIN both the Hurricane and Mosquito in the City of Calgary and to work with a volunteer based organization to see that they are properly restored to an engines running, museum quality static condition. To respect their internal process and to keep everything fair, council will issue a Request for Proposals open only to volunteer based, not-for -profits to work with them in attaining these goals. In a surprise move, the committee also voted to put up $800,000 on a matching dollar basis to support the restoration of these two priceless treasures! The sale is dead.

With a short lunch break, the meeting lasted four hours before the unanimous vote was passed.

A HUGE Thanks to you all for your support and belief in this. We have airplanes to restore in the near future. Special mention to those who came to the meeting, to those who spoke and our appreciation for those who arranged time off work to do so: Bob O., Robyn, M., Peter C., Peter W., Scott and Trevor McT., Barry D., Trish and Keith H., Nicholas L.
