I'm sorry I opened that can of worms in someone else's "good" thread. If we need to have another Movie Belle thread locked lets start a new thread and leave this "projects" thread along so we might learn something new and cool.

That B-17C project, was it going to be a full replica? Or is there a parts source.

The bird will have alot of original parts.There are parts being made now that will really help the plane along as well as other B-17s.

I posted a picture of BLK #3 Upper a few days ago.

It will have many original *B-17* parts, and it is not
intended to be a replica. Still, the scarceness of B-17C
parts will mean many of those will be re-manufactured.
Still, I don't think that will detract from the sight of a
shark-tail winging it's way around the sky.

Wow, best of luck, Dry Martini! What an ambitious project. Have you guys thought about scouring the countryside for shark-fin wrecks in the States? I don't remember where I saw it, but there is a link somewhere on the internet, which shows pictures of very substantial remains of an early shark-fin somewhere high up in the mountains of the Pacific Northwest. I think Col. Rohr has that info, if I'm not mistaken. It's not even in water, so the Navy couldn't dispute that. I guess the only thing besides money to recover it, is that it probably would be on some kind of federal land, park, or preserve. I would think that would be a lot easier to deal with than the Navy, however.

I think that would be great. Everyone wins. We have done it in the past. THe NMUSAF helped Air Heritage get "909" back in the air after the crash at BVI back in the late 1980's. They sent us patterns, drawings, and material to help get the plane airborne again. They also did the same for the top turret of the P-61 in Reading. MAAM lent us a turret, and we made a copy of it for the P-61 at the NMUSAF, and made a second for MAAM, and I think Kermit Weeks.

I meant no disrespect by using the replica term. I just wasn't aware of the project. That is going to be coo!

Maybe there could be a compromise on the Tell's Peak C model - might a dedicated restorer be approved to remove the tail section for use in the recreation and leave the wings on the mountain?

Thanks TriangleP, I knew I'd read that info somewhere, just didn't remember where. The whole idea of an early Fort in the air is a wonderful thing.

If anybody wants a decent B17C I'd have said the RAF's AN529 in Libya was a good bet.

Unless its been cut up or trashed like that Handley Page Hermes. And the Lady Be Good. And the intact, sat on its gear Bristol Blenheim.
