My only real question is- and remember, I do like the artwork,- how perfect is "too perfect"? What I mean is, usually the original artwork on WWII aircraft was done well, but hurriedly, and most often by amateur artists, with mistakes, changes, irregularities, etc. Even the best had some defects. Why does it seem to me that the current versions of the artwork, either replicating original, or new, seems to be absolutely perfect and flawless? As though done by a high quality artist?

Personally, although I do like the stuff, I would rather see it a bit more "rugged", as though done "in the field", rather than in an artist's studio.

Again- I think the artwork looks great, but wonder...

John needed some bumbling idiot walking around in the bomb bay while he was painting like Django and his crew had last spring!! :shock:

The artwork looks GREAT, even with the clothes, in my opinion. And to everyone who says to heck with the PC aspect of nose art, don't be surprised if someone makes an issue of even this.

Very nicely done.I would not have given into the PC crap.The same people who would bitch about the original art are also the same crowd who think its OK to teach our kids that homsexuality is ok.Go figure.I say tell the the panty waist crowd to take a hike.I also think that the idea using vin tape at certain times is a great idea.

I hate being PC as much as the next guy however I get tired of hearing about how noseart has to be a nude spread eagle woman to be accurate or non-pc. There were plenty of swimsuits and cartoon characters back then. Sometimes it isn't always about PC but simple good taste. Sure I appreciate a naked woman much as the next guy but doesn't mean I have Playboy centerfolds hanging on my walls in my house you know. I believe in free speech and not being PC but not like I go around calling my kids teachers "toots" and "sugar" either. Sometimes it helps to show a little class. It doesn't have to be a nude to show people what noseart was all about, and just because it isn't a nude it doesn't mean you have sold your soul to the PC crowd. you know these guys were young, dumb, and full of *** and there weren't a lot of ladies around. The noseart was meant for a moral boost in the field and to help give a sense of ownership and life to their birds. It doesn't mean that each and everyone of these guys went home and wanted to force naked images down the throats of ever man, women and child. There weren't any children around in these combat zones and I am willing to bet that when these guys went home they didn't have Esquire calendars on the walls of their kids rooms. I'm not even saying it is damaging or anything for a kid to see nude artwork, all I am saying is in some situations people just prefer to make the art a little more family friendly. I don't understand why some of you get your panties all in a bunch about it.

Well, if I had a million+ dollar airplane I think I would be reluctant to paint on invasion stripes with a broom and put amateurish looking nose art on it. You also have to consider the practicality. A nude may be authentic, but if you can't get bookings for the aircraft, you may not get your message out either.

Vargas was a class act in my opinion, and this rendition fits the aircraft well.

He does great work if anyones looking for some new art in the future.

Vargas is fine- I did not really get into the PC angle with my last posting: If copying an original pic, and it has a bathing suit on, fine. If it was originally a nude, then it should remain so.

But being told what you can put on your own airplane (in the way of nude/clothed)is PC thuggery.

As to painting it on, I'd rather see them painted as original. Otherwise, it looks like it is just a fancy paint job... If I had a million dollar airplane, it would look like it was in a war- so people can see what they really looked like during the war. Rough brushed paint and all...

Trying to pick an example of a Vargas girl to paint on the back of my SnapOn tool box...

Course, I do love the pretty ones as much as the veteran looking ones...

Well, guess what? There is absolutely nothing wrong with being homosexual. I'm not one to stir up trouble on these boards but I take offense to that comment as I have many gay friends. That is all I have to say about that.

As for the nose art, I think it looks great and if they chose to keep it a little more family friendly that's their decision. If it'll bring more people over to see the plane and keep it in the air then that's excellent.

Safer that you dont have one, you could hurt yourself. I've seen seasoned (female) professionals lose their grip on the pole and take nasty falls.

I'm sorry for not sending my comment above as a private message but still stand behind it. I like to think I live in a progressive country where ignorant comments like that are a thing of the past. All I ask is that comments like that (which have what to do with this nose art?) be kept to onesself.
