Ok, so I'm not an expert on B-17 production so I'm going to ask. Why did the original 909 have what appears to be a standard F model plexiglass nose nose? Did the G models initially come with the F model nose and it was changed sometime within G production or was it just a replacement during service or something?


I think some of the early Gs had the longer, more pointed F-style plexi nose. There were at least two different styles of nose used on late Gs..one a single-piece unit, the other made up of upper and lower sections glued together.

Seems to me that I remember that the last of the Fs produced actually had chin turrets, so maybe she was built during/immediately after that time period?
