Warbirdcrew,

What's the story on the F8U Crusaders? Are they potentially flyers? And what's the large camouflaged fuselage visible behind the Crusaders?

Cheers!

Dean,

AFAIK the Crusaders are not part of the FHC but I could be wrong. I seem to recall that they have been at AWO for many years. I don't know if they are potential flyers although it would be great if they were. The fuselage behind them is an F-105 which I'm pretty sure does belong to the FHC and I also think it is going to be a flyer.

I saw the Bf-109E-3 fly into Paine Field yesterday (Monday 3/24) at about 4:25pm. Couldn't miss that shape, and the engine sounded quite different than anything I have ever heard before. Very smooth. I pulled my car over on the way home from work and got out my binoculars...watched the Messerschmitt approach from the north, break mid-field to the west and then circle for a south landing on runway 16R at PAE...very pretty sight to watch. I'm glad the collection is moving closer to my home, as now I will be able to see the planes more often when they fly.

The F-8s are Allen's and are the ex-Thunderbird Aviation Crusaders, and 01 was a flier, 02 was not that far from flying. If anyone has a contact in the FHC group, I have a pick up truck load of F-8 ground test equipment I would like to talk to them about.

I'll second that!

The F-105 used to belong to Al Reddick out in Reno years ago, It is rumored that it was not demilled so it could be a flyer. That is the rumor anyway.

They did such a great job to get the FHC Hurri painted all correct in RCAF homefront markings and then they had to go put the spinner back on it. Arg...

Yep that is Yagen's Hurricane XII RCAF 5667. Ex Neil Rose.

The FHC Hurricane was built as a Sea Hurricane BW881. It was later upgraded to XII standards and operated by the RCAF. It has been restored as Hurricane XII RCAF 5429.

Here is a news article on the opening of the new museum and it gives flight details of some of Allen's aircraft. It says that the Me109 and Hurricane are due to fly to Paine Field on April 2.
http://www.heraldnet.com/article/200803 ... MULTIMEDIA

More info:
"Opportunities to see the planes fly out of Arlington or into Paine Field are coming up, too, although flight schedules will shift according to the weather, pilot availability and any work that must be done on the planes. A Messerschmitt Me-109 and a British Hawker Hurricane are due to fly to Paine Field April 2, followed by the flight of a P-47 from Arlington to Paine Field April 21. An extremely rare, rocket-powered Me-163 Komet developed by Germany, and flown near the end of World War II, will be delivered (not flown in) on May 10 and a Japanese Zero will fly into Paine Field from a restoration center in California on May 10."

I thought that not all CC&F built Hurricanes came without spinners? I could swear that I've seen more than a few pics of Canadian Hurris with that oddly-shaped spinner, as is fitted to the FHC's example.

Could be wrong, though, it has happened before :)

cheers

Sounds like Fighter Rebuilders have finished the new-build 2-seat Zero at last. A shame it couldn't stay at Chino another week for the show.

Yeah, any pics of the Zero? Im always interested in meatball Warbirds. 8)
