She was on the flightline with alot of other birds in 1984 when we marched to jet engine school. Marched past the B-36 everyday as well.

I was not yet a pilot in 1969 when I was at Chanute. The only H I noticed was me trying to get the H out of there and get back home. I was going through tech school with about a B average when found out that if you had an A average you got to go home about two weeks early. I then began to study like crazy every spare moment. I didn't march from the mess hall to the tech section, I had a plan that as soon as I got to breakfast, I ate fast and snuck out to tech school on my own to get a little extra study in. The instructors were civilian, no one expressed any problem. My only real problem was that I caught mono and regularly had a fever of about 101 every morning and a headache. I lived on Asprin, and hope. The story of going home early proved to be true, believe it or not. I brought my average up to about 92, and got back to Texas. My roomate was a nice enough guy from N J, a regular who I think went to Vietnam. Somewhere I have a paper that says I am an honor grad of the AF tech school. Course really I don't know much. The explanation was while we were there the AF was receiving a payment from our home unit in Texas. Thus the Texas unit only had to pay until we completed the course. The AF did not tell new students this, but someone gave me the word. Wish I could say thanks now.

Pictures from August of 1987

I remember it being real hot that day. My lovely wife and I were driving on I-70 and I took the chance that we could get in. The gate gard waved us right in and I drove around and took pictures of all the planes. Somewhere I took a wrong turn and ended-up by a group of B52s that looked like were in the process of being repainted in dessert colors from the green colors. Thats when some sentries showed up and escorted us back to the B-36.

You know those diecast models from China that look X airplane, but the design is clunky looking because they were just guessing and didn't have real specs to go by when making the prototype model? ...that's what the H reminds me of (compared to the D).
