Help Id'ing P-38, B-25, and B-23 in old Albuquerque photo

I think you're right on both counts. When I first looked at the picture, something seemed wrong. I seem to remember when the hanger was moved across the runway to it's present location but I can't place the time. Must have been after 1976 since that's when I started flying through ABQ on a regular basis with the airline.

I think there is an additional photograph of this exact spot/time, and in color, hanging in an office near me. It was taken looking north, whereas yours appears to be looking ESE.

I believe the P-38 was a droopsnoot version.

I think this hangar was the one jacked up on B-47 MLG struts and moved across the active runways, after the city/airport/God himself said not to even think about doing that. Great story, and those B-47 gears were still sitting abandoned next to Interstate 25 up til around 1998.

I'm heading out on another road trip, it may be a while before I can access that photo.

I don't think it's a pool of oil under the B-25, I think it's water as I see several puddles around. Note the large puddle on the other concrete ramp corner above the hangar, and to right rear of the B-23 on the taxiway.

Yes. and yes.

The building in the lower left corner is the original ABQ terminal, and it still stands in that very spot today. It was preserved mostly intact, with a beautiful old interior, and was used for social events up til around 2000. Now, I think it has been taken over by a govt agency, the TSA perhaps.

43-4899 - B-25H which underwent executive conversion in 1956, including tip-tanks taken from 44-30988. This is the B-25H now with the Kalamazoo AHM.


Initally, I too thought of N37L as the paint job appears cosistant with the way I saw her back in the 70's, the intakes as shown in this photograph however, does not indicate this B-25 to be 43-4899...I have several photos of N37L and all consistantly show the Mitchell equipped with the Holley or flat intakes, so I'd strike 37L off the list.

For what it's worth, the corvette is a '56 or '57 (58 - 59 had partially covered coves).

I love the B-23 and would love to learn more about it, my guess is that it is the one now in Dayton.
