Found these: Hauling through the streets of Liverpool.
I love the little girl standing there. Don't know whether she's got her fingers in her ears or whether she's resting on the handle bars thinking, "Will you blokes get on with it. I've got to cross the street."
Dave Smith wrote: If anyone is interested, the ship in the background, K25, is HMS Azalea, a Flower-Class corvette used for convoy escort.
I can hear that pick up line in the bar. "I'm in the Navy and my ship is the Azalea. No really- Its a Flower Class ship!" I guess this is the fore runner to the Flower Power Movement of the 60's.
Sorry, American humor. Rich
Mudge, many thanks. Two I hadn't seen before! The aerial shot was actually at Burtonwood, about 20 miles from Speke. Roger Freeman used it in his Mighty Eighth War Manual. His original print had Speke printed on the back of it so it wasn't unreasonable to assume it was correct.
51fixer - I like your comment about the pick-up line. Must be a British thing that one of the toughest jobs in the Battle of the Atlantic was crewing a corvette, so the Royal Navy called them after flowers! One of my neighbours was a navigation officer on Clematis, but this is getting a bit off topic.
