I just looked at an overhead on Terraserver, and it certainly doesn't appear to me from the aprons and taxiways that the hangar was built at Meacham. If it came from Fort Worth AAF/Carswell, it would be a B-32 hangar rather than a B-29 hangar!! 8)

I'm pretty sure that they are steel.

The trusses are steel in the Ft. Worth hanger...

Thanks for the info, guys. The steel trusses would certainly make moving that huge hangar practical. Just unbolt the erector set and reassemble at the new site. Since we talked about the Pyote Sub-Depot, here are a couple of photos of it "then and now". This first picture is of the 351st Sub-Depot crew, dated 5-45. From this photo it appears that the trusses in this hangar were wooden.

And here is what remains as of February of 2008:

This hangar was dismantled in the early nineties, but the other smaller hangars were long gone by the eighties.

I just received an email with this link pertaining to the Great Bend Squadron hangar situation:
http://www.gbtribune.com/story.php?sid=13353

So, this is the first of three to fall. It's interesting that the spokesman for the City quoted in the article is the city attorney. The other Great Bend hangar and Pratt Squadron hangar are probably not far behind.

The hangar just destroyed is in the center of the three pictured here, and the one with the very dark chimney smoke is rumored to be next:

The article speaks of the warning on the center doors. I used to have a really cool plan for this sign, but developments have killed the idea:

This is the Maintenance Ready Board spoken of--this was painted on the concrete wall that supported the northeast corner of the hangar:

Oh, well, it was just an old wooden building.
