They were OD not blue.

According to Ben Drew's book "The Katzemjammer Ace" the date of the photo was 26th July 1944.

Unfortunately Lou IV/Athelene was destroyed 2 weeks later on the 12th August 1944 with the extremely sad loss of Colonel Christian.

Sorry, I was trying not to be controversial about the color, although I lean toward OD or RAF Green. I was also merely pointing out what others have observed about the apparent differeing shades of OD or RAF Green appearing on Lou IV. Once observed, I have to concur.

The color controversy is hardly over! There is a fairly intence discussion over on the IPMS Stockholm site. Excellent arguments from both sides of Blue or Green question.
