Not wanting to de-rail the thread (Who Me!!??) but wasn't there an "Old Lady" in Atlanta, Georgia years ago that had a WW2 Japanese Zero in Her back yard?? Apparently it was a rare version & She wouldn't part with it for some reason??
She would only fly it to Church on Sundays & had the oil changed every 3 months...
Whatever happened to it?? Just curious... Digger

World Jet in Ft. Lauderdale got it I believe.

I made a stab at that one myself. Never hurts to try, especially in those days.

I believe that has since been sold to Paul Allen.

I couldn't resist having some fun with visitors to the hanger. A few did have a chuckle with the "fine print".

I don't believe that the salmon color was unique to Brewster. The outer wings were contracted out (to Briggs I believe) not Brewster. I have never seen them in salmon primer before though, so that's pretty interesting. I have always been curious about the unusual color, as I came across some NOS fuselage stations a few years back coated in the salmon primer.

Richard,
This is just part of the unique stories to investigate. So many Brewster myths and facts can be determined through the rebuild of this plane. Just like Delmar's Gee Bee, some I have read, I can even now confirm as false. If the right person were to rebuild this Corsair it could be a naval version of Glacier Girl.

Yes, I'm with you BDK! I think we should all take up a new political cause with our motto - "Free the Corsairs"! To start with, I'm going to sit in a tree and go on a hunger strike, until all of the Corsairs in the world are freed! :D

There was a fairly intact zero at a museum off of Peachtree St in Atlanta until probably 1990 or so. It had been wrecked while in the states, then was used as a fundraiser - "Pay a buck to hit the zero with an axe or sledgehammer".

Isn't that the one that went to World Jet?

Here you go, click on "Japanese Aircraft", then "Mitsubishi", then "A6M Zeke", it's the first one listed "A6M5-52" Werk no. 1303.
