How is joking about aliens political? I haven't mentioned politics in over a year. It's a total waste of time.

I don't know what was out there, but I hear there were all kinds of flyers falling from the sky .... reading ....

Late Night Jokes:

"President Bush welcomed Vietnam's prime minister to the White House today. He promised the prime minister he would travel to Vietnam next year---that is, unless his dad can get him out of it."
--Jay Leno

"During the debate, Bush was asked by a lady to name three mistakes he's made. And Bush responded, this debate, the last debate and the next debate." --Bill Maher

"Governor Schwarzenegger has come out against gay marriage and then he went back to slathering body oil all over his muscles in front of other guys." Craig Kilborn

"President Bush said he was 'troubled' by gay people getting married in San Francisco. He said on important issues like this the people should make the decision, not judges. Unless of course we're choosing a president, then he prefers judges." Jay Leno

"Some see the move as an attempt to preserve traditional values, while others see it as a cynical ploy to ensure that Vice President Dick Cheney will never have to pay for his gay daughter's wedding." Jon Stewart

Now I don't know where I stand with the UFO stuff, but that seems pretty strange.

Not really.

There is not one omniscient central brain that knows all in the AF. Every Public Affairs officer doesn't have access to every flying squadron's schedule every day. MOAs are used by many different units. He11, even within one unit people don't know all. If asked right now, I couldn't tell you with 100% certainty where everyone in my squadron flew yesterday -- and I was on the flying schedule. If RAF Lakenheath was asked if we were flying over East Anglia, we could only tell you what WE were doing...not any of the other USAF units in the country or even USAF units in Europe (who also fly over England's airspace).

So, they may have asked one organization, who replied with, "nope, we weren't flying that night"...when in fact maybe another unit WAS flying in the MOA that night.

It would be nice if PA officers were able to know all, see all, and tell all...but the fact of the matter is that they don't. It's probable that the original person who made the original statement just didn't do all of their homework before saying something. Then, when there turned out to be a bunch of brouhaha about the event, they actually went back and found out the real info, and perhaps even had access to information they didn't previously have.

Well I never though of it that way. Very interesting take on that buddy.

So there were videos of Aurora, the rumored replacement for the SR-71 which the USAF & DOD deny exists. Good one. :)

CAPFlyer wrote:In addition, the two "good" videos of the event that were posted show aurora, not anything unusual, although a-typically bright, they were still aurora, and they were taken at night instead of in the evening before sundown. There are several pictures posted proporting to show them, but I've not seen aything remotely conclusive to be anything but dust on the lens or something like that because it's so small, you can't really tell what it is if anything.

Here's the other thing, there were quite a few non-military aircraft in the area at the time. None reported seeing anything unusual. I find it interesting that people on the ground see something but pilots don't. If there was something to it, we'd be getting reports left and right from GA and airline pilots who were in the area talking about it.

I tend to think that there's a perfectly good, non-secret explanation for the whole thing. We just don't have enough information to pinpoint it.
Once, while up at our ranch (near Ft. Hood) I saw some aircraft's lights up in that direction, and I KNOW that I saw some really bright flashes with different colors nearby. I suspect that they were flares or some weapon being launched, but frankly I do not think that they were anything out of this world.
Someone else might have freaked out.

Has anyone checked with the Teaxas A&M extension service to see if there might have been an early budding of peyote cactus in the area?

TV show

Sat Jan 26, 2008 5:46 pm

Eric says " which TV show". If that is not him on CNN Headline News at 7 and also 9 pm ET, it sure must be his twin brother. How many other guys look like that, and still sport one of those Roger Maris style 1960s haircut? And with his attempts at innocence, along with the UFO sightings, one can infer Eric might be part of a giant military/industrial/govt cover up. Do you know any other "civilian"??? pilot with that many weapons hanging all over their plane? Where'd he get all that stuff?

Dr. Pepper

Sat Jan 26, 2008 5:54 pm

Bluethunder, you hit on one thing I know for sure, If you buy a Dr. Pepper around Waco, you get one made with real sugar and they do taste better than the corn syrup or other stuff you get elsewhere. When I was a kid one of my Dad's best friends, Mr, Biilingsly was president of Dr. Pepper Bottling Co in Dallas.

It is a B2. And the picture I have was over Colorado not Texas.
But my friend didn't know it was a B2. No tail...no sound...Looks like a bat.
So to my friend it was a UFO.

Just goes to show, If you don't know what it is...doesn't mean it belongs on Star Trek.
I am sure Texas saw something... as to what it is...
we may not know until it is declassified... or they stop selling Dr. Pepper.

Deja vu... Back in '71 or so I read a UFO book that had a head-on photo of the YB-49 Flying Wing with a caption that mentioned that it had been responsible for several UFO sightings  .

Going farther back, there was an article in a late '50s issue of Reader's Digest that featured an "official" statement to the effect of "Don't worry about those UFO sightings - they're a wonderful new invention that the government is going to reveal to everybody soon..."

We're still waiting... :?

Well, in the mid-90s, the USAF admitted that over the course of the last 40-ish years, they have essentially used UFO hysteria in the US to cover for sightings of classified aircraft in flight. Although the story specifically discussed U-2 and F-117 sightings by the general public, I'm sure it applies to many other airframes we don't know about.

Not Aurora,try Astra Tr3b...
Remember the Phoenix sitings? At the mo there is a huge amount of UFO sitings being made around the world.in the USA it tops out at about 200 daily. How many are actual ones are real is the real question.

Real

Sun Jan 27, 2008 11:10 am

Rossco, what do you mean by "real" far as UFO sightings? In the case in Texas I am referring to, the same sights were reported by several unconnected people. There's no reason to question their honesty or objectivity, at least none that I am aware of. I wish I had the news report, it was on tv or in the paper. I think it was lights moving over the town at night, not a contrail up high. I didn't pay that much attention to the story until the next chapter came out that it was 10 F-16s. So I don't think there is much doubt these people saw Something, whether it remains Unidentified or is now I D as F-16s. And of course worldwide there have been many times where there is no doubt that something which doesn't look ordinary has been seen by multiple people, not connected and even filmed. Some stories may be outright invented, or even drunks, but there are many where Something has been seen. As to what, well that is why they are Unidentified.
My post was really meant to be humorous since it is near Breckenridge and the major warbird restoration and operations there. Humorous, but not totally fantasy. And tell us a little about that Spitfire project?

Funny thing is, I've seen that picture of the Belgium incident in the past and several others of the "Astra TR-3B" taken in Europe, and they look amazingly like the Avro Vulcan, which was still flying at the time of the sightings... :)

I watched a "supposed" expert report on TV about one of these pictures, and he was then thoroughly red-faced when the pilot of the Vulcan in question walked into the studio and showed everyone pictures of the airplane and described his training mission in detail, including his navigator's plot of the route they took which showed them flying over the exact location where the picture was taken.

I think there are still some odd and unexplainable sightings, but 99% of those which make it on TV are simply the uneducated public seeing an airplane that doesn't look like a Boeing or Airbus and thinking that it must be alien because of it.
