A friend of mine that tought me how to drive truck, was ex-8th AF, 401st GB..survived 35 missions as bombardier on B-17G "DER GROSS ARSH VOGEL" Translates ..The Big Ass Bird....In fact, there is a large book about nose art that has a picture of him (Norm Defenbaugh) wearing his A-2...I knew it was him because of his big ears....He lost his A-2 in a poker game shortly after the war... I had an artist redo an A-2 in as close as we could come to the original...the picture I had of his B-17 was in B&W...and it was presented to him at his retirement party 15 yrs ago...I didn't realise the amount of emotion that it would bring out in this ole coot....Last I saw of it, he had it framed in glass hanging on his wall at his house in Brighton, Co.
