So it seems that the P-61 is at the top of the overall list. Good choice ... I know I asked this before ... many times ... but anyone have an idea of when we could possibly see her fly? ..... and another question ... is it money or just time that is making the P-61 restoration take time? ... I'm sure both, but lets assume that, for the most part, money wasn't the issue here, would the restoration proceed much faster? ... I assume no matter how much money you have, it still takes time to produce and restore parts.

Hello Wix-ers, and thanks for the continued interest in the P-61. I know others have said it before, but it really does help your mood when you spend 8+ hours a day struggling with a project to come home and read that others are really excited to see it when its done.
While not an official MAAM statement, I've often heard the answer to the "how long" question expressed in a dollar amount. I don't recall the exact amount, but it’s more than I've got. I'd say we're working on it as fast as our current budget allows. In our case, if money increases, progress increases. We rely a lot on once-a-week volunteers and virtually all work is done in house. More budget means we could hire more full time specialists and perhaps send sub assemblies to outside contracts.
So, I guess I'm trying to say ... $$ = TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIMMMMMMEEEEEE
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ = TIIMMEE
Rest assured, we make progress every day. Some days the project seems a whole lot bigger than other days.
For a quick update, we've started on a fixture for the rudders, they've had a preliminary inspection, and wooden form blocks have been started for the needed parts. One is in pretty bad shape, while the other is more intact, relatively speaking. The structure repair and rebuild for the second vertical fin in finished and the skins are being drilled. We're hoping to have the second fin finished in a month/month and a half. As for what’s next, hard to know. A large portion of the shop has been taken up by a spray tent for covering the fuselage of our Kinner Sportster. I'd say the horizontal stab is next, but I'm not the boss. Sorry for the lack of pictures, management wants to send all pics through the museum website...
Thanks Again,
T.J.

If you could have been @ the 1988 Breckenridge Airsho, you would have seen Kermit's with Howard at the controls....

You know, I said P-61, and I still am looking forward to that, but what I would really see flying is a Martin Mauler. Or if you really want to enter fantasy land, how about an AT-9 "Jeep".
