I have a pilot's license and am a life-long aircraft nut. I volunteer at the Planes of Fame in Chino every Saturday.
But I live next to John Wayne Airport in Irvine and there is this IDIOT who owns a Pitts and flies regularly. He seems to delight in having his prop go supersonic right over my apartment and if a vote were to come up, I'd kick his butt outta' here ...
All he'd have to do to mitigate the issue is reduce the rpm by a little, but no. He HAS to make a racket for 45 minutes every other day shooting touch and goes after I get home. If it weren't a crime, I'd chope 2 inches off his prop blades and be done with it.
Personally, if I owned a Pitts, I'd LEAVE the airport area and go fly some acro. All this guy does is touch and goes making mega noise ... go figure. Pretty lame way to fly a Pitts.
I can imagine what the NON-pilots are thinking.
As an aside, why don't WE do what Europe has done? Mandate mufflers and lower rpm on GA aircraft ... basically a noise limit. A French Cessna isn't all THAT different from one of ours, but it IS quieter, and by a LOT.
They limit the prop diameter and rpm to make SURE it doesn't go supersonic and require mufflers. We should do it before we all get run out of town.
Every time the Planes of Fame Museum puts on an airshow, we get hundreds of compaints, even though it's once a year. Go figure ... people may have interest or NO interest but they CAN complain loudly and publicly when provoked. It makes for great press ... anything negative is sensational and newsworthy.
