:D 66-7626 is going to the Indiana Military Museum in Vincennes, IN as part of a a new facility that will be built on 11 acres of ground just to the SW of the George Rogers Clark National Park. The ground has been purchased and fund raising for the new facility is under way. Check out the present facility at http://www.indianamilitarymuseum.org

The NMUSAF lists the F-4D 66-7554 as being in storage.
Could this pic perhaps be the aircraft in question??
Taken in the Restoration Hanger last Friday.

No that is one of the Migs. Interesting story is that the museum has had one of the type on display for a while, and this one in storage. Turns out that the one in storage has this colorful history, and the one on display has nothing notable in it's history. The one that went on display did so because it was complete and the one in storage came later and was incomlete. The one in storage is being restored, and once complete will take the place of the other in the museum.

The force is strong. ha ha No problem. There were two F-4 displayed on the base by the entrance to the Materials Command. They were taken down and replaced by an F-15 Eagle and an F-16. The two F-4's sat on the ramp for a while. One of them was a Mig Killer, and went to the Museum of Aviation, and the other is going to this museum. The one that is going to Indiana is still sitting on the ramp the last time I saw it next to the B-47 that the museum is trying to find a home for.

Anyone have more pictures of those 2? I have a Tamiya 1/32 F-4C/D I want to build it with marking from that unit.

Here's what I've got, some will be repeats. I plan to head over there this weekend to take some pictures of the XC-99 so i'll take some updated pics of 626, the B-47 and the C-118 that is over there now.

64-0763 Been there since I was a kid. They would tow it back and forth out onto the old runway. I was told it was/is used for signature tests. She is very complete, right down to her engines. I was talking about her with Uwe over at 5053phantoms.com and there is listing of her career but it's nothing special as I recall. I think she had an accident early on in her career that ended her up as a test mule.

Neat to see closeups of 64-0763 (I never new the serial number.) Like you say, I've seen her sitting around Wright Field for at least 20 years. Someone at the museum told me she was used as a calibration target for laser systems (the lasers are apparently set up in that funky looking tower up on the hilltop.)

Mig-17 shot down by SUU-23, 20mm over Phuc Yen.


The aircraft is marked with a 2nd kill and this was to have happened on March 29 1968 by Col. Wesley Kimball. A Mig-17 by a AIM-7. Intel had confirmed that a MIG had indeed crashed. Several months after Kimball's tour was over, he was informed that the mig kill was cancelled.

I know it's off of this specific topic, but doesn't that B-47 just look sexy? That was just one really neat looking airplane. I know that several folks here have a real thing for the B-36, but wouldn't one of those in the air just be sweet? Cost a fortune, but sweet!
