I don't know about that useful load claim, Bill. The AD has a pretty well known load carrying ability ( 8000 lbs ). Of course the cargo is a pretty dense one and I guess the claim that it is a useful load would depend on your local circumstances. Though I will agree that it would be hard to hang a goat from a hard point, plus it would probably pi$$ off the goat !

Mindboggling... As goats eat just about everything, an AD with a goatload brings a new riff on 'WMD'.

Perhaps the first heavy fuel fired organically armed bomber?

My AD5 weighs 12,600 empty and has a max gross weight of 25,300. You are @ 4000lbs short on the estimate. It's over 12,000 lbs, but I bet it would really be fun to fly at max gross.

My math may not be too accurate but geez...that's alot of freaking goats

Eric, I got the number from Wikipedia. The number wasn't really important as long as it was more than the AN-2. Had to show Bill that his socialistl friend Sergy had overestimated his capabilities . He's probably the same guy who claimed that the russkies designed the DC-3.

I thought that was the japanese?

To digress a mpment; The Japanese actually built the DC-3 under license and paid Douglas royalties on each copy, at least until the war started. The Rusiians simply copied it and claimed when asked, "that they designed it and Douglas copied them!"

Final word

Rick, Sergy says whatever load a Skyraider carries, it is certainly gross, at least it will be after a few a few hours and few gallons of flight time. Final word from Serg: toy capitalist tool plane mostly fought boys so young they were still wearing their black pajamas, and so third world poor they had on flip flops, couldn't even afford Crocs, much less Air Jordans like all Sergy's 11 kids want for Christmas. Mighty Antonov fought for the Mutherland against for-sure Men pilots like Eric and Gunther, a tough bunch until winter came and made their Army sourkrauts. And this is the last word from Sergy, at least until he can think up any more.

I'm sure I've read that Lisunov built the Li-2 under license from Douglas.

Or one big one.

My information regarding the Russian IL-2s comes from the book " Grand Old Lady" by LtCol Carroll V. Glines and LtCol Wendell F. Moseley, pp. 86-89.

Il-2 or Li-2? 2 different a/c.

Sadly, even "Sergy" is to the right of Bill.

Just did a quick Google & every site I found claims it to be license built, even an ad for Yefim Gordon's book on the Li-2. I'll have to dig out my copy of it to verify what's in it.
