Very cool movie! The scene with F14 and Zeros was shot near Key West with staging out of the Naval Air Station. Reportedly there was an F14 that almost splashed itself during filming. Some neat film of them in action.

Warbird Kid,

Saw them performing this past weekend at AirSho, Midland Texas. They were flying six Zero replicas (T-6 conversions) and five Kate/Val replicas (BT-13 and SNJ mixes).

Ever since I saw them first perform in 97 or so in Stratford, I have always thought that the Tora group was one of the most dynamic acts out there! Its just a shame that they havent been able to expand a little bit. You know, find a couple other of the Tora birds. I heard that Talleciet was selling his Val that is at the March Fielf Airmuseum, if im not mistaken.

Man that would be cool to fly, let alone OWN one of those birds!

The TORA group will be here in Houston this weekend. Always a crowd favorite!

A good friend of mine flew one of the Zeros in Final Countdown. Right after the movie came out there was an article on the CAF DISPATCH magazine. It shows the Tomcat pilots as well as the CAF Zero pilots. This same pilot flew the Stearman under the overpass in the movie "Secondhand Lions".

Sorry Tom, but I've got to completely disagree with you on that one, I thought that movie was great, had a new and different type of story, and is one of the few DVD's that I've ever bought.

Just my opinoin, not meant to start any arguements............Roger

Great clip I remember seeing that moive as a young child at a drive in.
It was a double feature, Final Countdown & Clash of the Titans.
BTW are there any drive in's left??

Gatesville Texas has one of the older ones still in use . Killeen Texas has two screen one. And saw a New one that was recently built out side of Tom Ball TX

His son was the movies producer. Its good to have dear old Dad's name on the marquee to draw in the cash.

The south Denver area city council just voted to let a developer tear down one of the last drive ins left. In southern Colorado near Alamosa is one that you can fly into the airport and see the show, also visible from the motel across the street.

There's a drive-in in Dayton by the KOA Kampground the my friends and I stayed at the last two years for our get-together. We were usually too tired to go over after the day because the shows didn't start until 9 or 10 pm.

This movie is not too bad, compared such hits as Iron Eagle, Hot Shots and Memphis Belle.

I saw this flick as a kid and loved it, it was one of the few movies with any sort of airplane action on the screen at the time, with the sole exception being "Airplane!" and the Empire Strikes Back, but that does not really count but I just had to throw that in!

Yeah, its a bit hokey now, but its still good pop corn fodder for a Sunday morning on cable. If they made a totally correct movie it might be too much or too boring for normal folk to watch. So just take it for what it is and enjoy!

BTW, San Diego still has two drive-ins left.

Is the Harbor drive-in still there? That was the last theater my grandfather managed before he retired. Some of the other drive-ins he managed around San Diego were the Ace in Lemon Grove, Pacific in P.B., and the Campus near SDSU. When I was a teenager it was nice to be able to get in free when I had a date. Unfortunately all of them gone now.
