Tom Friedkin's, from Chino. It was shipped to the UK for a Flying Legends show at Duxford in 2003, returning to Chino shortly afterwards.

My count of the total Mustangs in attendance for Saturday morning was 76. I shot a picture of most of the noseart and went and checked them off of the list on friday night. Unfortunately I was unable to shoot the noseart of all of the airplanes that did not get into the lines all afternoon.
PE, Excalibur, and a couple of others were so busy that they did not tow them back into the rows of other airplanes all day, excalibur evaded me by a Sunday departure too.

83 was the count. We got an updated sheet every morning where each plane was parked, and only 83 spots were filled. (yes....we had each spot numbered.) Unless a new one arrived on Sunday, 83 is it. Paul is right. you should listen to him.

Fellow WIXers and Mustang enthusiasts: Apologies for the following rant, but I have seen this too much and I've gotta say something:

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A "Cavalier T.Mk 2" !!!!!

No matter where you've read it, where it's been printed, or what Mustang or warbird 'historian' wrote it in a book/article or whatnot, there is not -- nor has there ever been -- a Cavalier Mk 2, T. Mk 2, or any other of those "Mark" names which are of Commonwealth (not US) origin. This is nomenclature that has been invented by a historian somewhere along the way. IT IS NOT CORRECT.

Please tell your friends and help eradicate this. Correct it in your own personal documents, too, if you have them.

The nomenclature is "Cavalier TF-51D"...and that only applies to the specific dual-control TF configuration aircraft that Cavalier made/modified (N20TF is one of them). The other military Cavalier aircraft are called either "Cavalier F-51D" or "Cavalier Mustang II", depending on when they were built and what features they were built with. Only the TF-51s had dual controls, however they all had 2 seats.

That is all.

<RANT off>

83 was the number of spots filled, not the P-51s in attendance.
75 complete P-51s, 1 Project off to the side.
Add in the 8 other fighters etc and the total is 83.

Heres the list of others in those spots.

I believe, when all is said & done, the official count will be 76 Mustangs, not including the "G" model pieces at the tower.
I worked there also and that was the number I was given this morning, but that is not an "official" GML announcement.
Even if you don't count the Mustangs, the remaining warbirds were an impressive display on the line and almost all were flown at some point in the weekend.
Thanks to everyone who shared their pictures on the other threads. I was too busy to take very many myself and I am nowhere near as good a photog as many of you.

Great to see that the show went off pretty well.... about the same number of mustangs as last time then? I seem to remember that was around 67. Amazing that they pulled it off, considering all of the variables involved.

Cheers,
Richard

PS. Anyone here get any air-to-air? I know that Paul Bowen was doing the majority of it of course.

We thought as of Sunday that the 'final' count of mustangs in attendance was 76 - then Jenny (studio photo lead - keeping track of who showed up and who got photographed) realized that at some point we had scratched Scat VI - which was there... so the 'final' count by the line crew was 77, plus one G model in pieces on the lawn. 'Other fighters' don't count ... as they were not 'mustangs in attendance'

Apologies to all who have the 76 number - nobody is sure where the scratch came from. Jay - please check Glen's photos for Scat VI...

*sigh* I should have learned by now not to post here... it never is to my benefit. There is some discussion as to whether or not Scat VI really was there after all. I know it was scratched as a 'mis-mark' at one point... If anyone has photographic evidence that is was there, then the total is 77/78, else it is my original post of 76/77 (the slash being whether or not you want to count the 'G' model parts on the grass)

Anyone?

'Scat VII' was there (the new TF using the paperwork of Jim Shuttleworth's aircraft) - P51DFltLn is asking about 'Scat VI'. Confusing, I know.

I don't remember seeing 'Scat VI' there.
