The engines and props appear to be straight-up copies of the B-29, albeit inverted. Not surprising..since the Ruskies reverse-engineered the Superfort as the Tu-4.

I don't think the bird is a direct copy of the PBM. Among other things the Mariner had inward-canted tails, and different canopy. Definately a similar general layout, but I suspect it's just a superficial resemblance.

According to the legend, it's in the vicinity of Murmansk harbor....Might be worth a look-a-see on GE....

Hey everyone,

The first picture reminded me of the plane that pictures surfaced of later. A while ago I saw pictures of the one that had fallen off of its stand. Definitely a different bird. And, if I remember correctly it was for sale.

Oh, just found a decent link:

http://www.ruudleeuw.com/temp-be6-ukraine.htm

Good 'ol Ruud has pictures of everything! And he mentions at the bottom that it's for sale.

Cheers,

David

Possibly another one's located, in Russia, at 69.03.51.45N 33.17.30.70E, on GE. Doesn't look like the same acft as the first one, though, as the mooring points out in the water (in the background) aren't there....
