Fan-Freakin-Tastic! Keep 'em coming!

I can't help but wonder how many thousands of priceless photos have been thrown out over the years as veterans pass, and their families don't realize the historic value of the pictures.

Now in the RAF Museum, London, I'm sure.

And you are right! Without this aircraft which was lent to the US and returned in the 1960s(?) there'd not have been a surviving complete Typhoon to put on show - anywhere in the world.

Extract from the 4th Ed of the Warbird Directory:

Typhoon Mk. IB MN235 (to USAF for trials, Wright Field as T2-491) 3.44
Smithsonian Institute/NASM: stored 53/68
Museum of Science & Industry, Chicago: loan
RAF Museum 4.68/00
(airfreighted to RAF Shawbury .68 ex USA,
rest. by 27MU as "MN235")
RAF Museum, Hendon: arr. .72/02

The thought of a USAAF FG of Typhoons (perhaps in P-47 style colo(u)rs) is mindboggling. I'm sure the USAAF equivalents of our Gary Austin would suddenly find how 'nice' the Merlin is compared to Napier's big beastie...

Banndit - Really great stuff. You've got the makings of a cracking first class article with a magazine here; thanks for sharing it with WIX first. ;)

I'd be happy to advise if you don't know how to go about getting it published. (Drop me a PM.) Or you can wait until someone publishes it off WIX without asking you.

Regards,

Absolutely 'top notch' stuff. Thank you for posting.

Will we see a shot of the Spitfire Mk VII EN474, says he in hope. :)

Thanks for all the replies. I've got probably a few hundred more things to scan, mostly newspaper clippings.

I'm going to start documenting some of his stories. He remembers working with a "young Jewish engineer" on developing the throttle/ supercharger/ water injection controls (one control for all the functions). I'll see what I can find on that.

I've written/ published stuff in the car world before, but wouldn't know where to start in the aircraft circles.

Check the meager contents of this lad's tool belt......Somehow, if I had to take that panel off I would have to have the Snap On truck back up to the wing!
Let's see some more mech pics!

Or more like a Snap-On roll box with a cd player going
